SEC Suspends Refs From Florida / Arkansas and UGA / LSU Games

If you watched the Gators - Razorbacks game you'll remember the personal foul and pass interference calls. They were complete garbage and impacted the game outcome.

I didn't see the other game but apparently it was the same crew.

Does anyone really think the SEC is unhappy about the officiating? It kept one of their teams as #1 and helped to preserve a possible #1 vs. #2 matchup in the conference championship game. So I suspect they are flogging the crew in public with a wink and a nudge.

Thats ridiculous and purely speculation. Bad calls happen all the time in every conference, its just that a disproportionate amount of SEC games are nationally televised, so thats where the microscope stays. The calls were TERRIBLE and the earlier poster is absolutely right- It potentially changed the outcome of the Florida/Ark game. It also completely changed the outcome of the LSU / UGA game since UGA's defense had shut down LSU for the entire 2nd half. There is no reason to assume that LSU was going to score had they started from their own 20 with less than minute to go. However, the BS celebration penalty allowed LSU to start their possesion on UGA's side of the field etc. etc. Whatever. The SEC did the right thing by canning this crew- they are terrible and have cast a dark shadow on the other conference officials who are consistently outstanding. Kudos to the conference leadership for taking the right course of action. And by the way, there is no need for officials in the SEC to "help" any of the teams finish undefeated, espcially since a 1-loss SEC champion is still almost guaranteed to wind up playing in the title game.

  • Even as a diehard LSU fan, I must say the officiating in the LSU/Georgia game was horrific. It worked out in LSU's favor but we should have lost that game.
