This just in, trumps an a-hole and ruined the old league. He won't even admit he killed it even after all these years.

I agree - I was a season ticket holder for the New Jersey Generals back then (right on the 50-yard line) and he killed it with his obsession of moving the league to the fall. Managed properly, spring football (and the USFL) had a real chance to survive.

I hear the Tampa Bay Yucs will be moving to the USFL South division for the inaugral season...early line has them only 7-pt underdogs vs the Mississippi Mudslingers...

I liked the USFL. I think it could have succeeded, even as a niche, if they weren't determined to play in the fall directly against the NFL (hey to The Donald). I think they may have tried to expand into marginal markets too soon.

On the other hand, without the attendance success the USFL had in previously untapped markets like Memphis and Jacksonville, there may not be NFL football in Tennessee or Jax today.

I didn't review the info, but on the surface it appears to me to be the latest attempt to "start a sports league" which usually means fleecing some rich people out of some of their money.

I don't know if it could work like the old USFL almost did. They signed 3 straight Heisman trophy winners out of college. They had how many HOF's play in that league? First year after it folded something like 12 all-pros in the NFL came from the USFL. If they go the XFL route of washed up or unknown players trying to make it back to the NFL they are doomed.

I'm not really sure a new league could duplicate the USFL's ability to sign marquee talent out of college. I have trouble believing they could match today's NFL salaries.

One thing that was pointed out in the new movie about the USFL was that the NFL's salaries were so depressed that it was very easy to convince players to go the USFL route. It also pushed up player salaries in the NFL very fast as the NFL acutally had to compete for players.

Now with a stronger union and no rookie cap (stupid slotting thing they try and use instead) I can't see how anyone could afford to pay more than the NFL.

The USFL screwed the pooch as they had players wanting to play for them due to more money and more fun league.

NO, NO, NO............I hated it then and I hate the idea now. We drafted Hershel Walker out of college and for some sh!t reason had to wait until the USFL folded before we got him!?! image

First I've seen of this. That 2nd poll questions was tremendously stupid. Why would you change the rules for number of feet in bounds for a TD catch?...What happens if a ball is thrown to front pylon, and a guy has one foot in on the 1-inch line, he crosses the plane of the goal line, but his second foot lands OB? Is that a catch?

I enjoyed the old USFL...but there is ZERO chance of ANY football league gaining traction in today's market, not in this or any other market. Arena football lasted for so long only because it wasn't real football, it was gimmicky enough to draw some people in...plus 62-51 games are fun to watch.
