OT - 10/21/09 - Max Came Home Yesterday

So, I'm sitting at home this morning and for the first time in three months, I don't have to drive to the fricking hospital to see me son.
He was discharged yesterday. He is exactly 12 weeks old, and has come home ahead of his due date (November 5).
He has come a looooong way since July 28. Born at 25 weeks or so, and just a pound and a half. Had serious lung issues being so premature, but with great care and a lot of strength, he pulled through. He came home on a heart/respitory monitor and supplemental oxygen, and may stay on them for a few weeks or months, it's all up to him. He also has some retinopathy of prematurity (bad eyes), but with treatment, he should be able to see about as well as most. He's eating great, taking about 2 ounces every three hours. Mom and I are exhausted, and now the real parenting part comes in. When do new parents get to sleep? She has the next few months off from work but I only get a few days. It's going to be difficult, but we'll be okay. Looking forward to getting a nap in later today.
To everyone that followed along on our little journey and offered such kind thoughts and prayers, I say thank you from the bottom of my heart (tearing up just writing that). They have obviously helped. Anyone that cares, here are the threads that tell the story of our little mini-Max (more tears, man I'm emotional). I think I need to go cook some bacon and regain some manhood.

Congratulations again on a beautiful baby.
After what you went through, here's hoping NO ONE in your family has to step foot in a hospital again for a long, long time.

It's amazing how I could be inspired by such a little guy, but I really have been. Thank you for sharing everything with us, and I can't wait to see some updated pics!

I am SOOOOO happy to hear that MAX is finally home! That news made my day! Like many others on this Board, I have been following LIL MAX'S progress and was thrilled to hear that he is where he belongs!
BTW ... looking at those chubby cheeks it looks like Max has been sneaking in some milk shakes when the doctors and nurses were not looking!
GOD BLESS your entire family!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

We've been through this twice now and there is nothing that beats that feeling of bringing the little one home so I know your relieved to finally be able to start the family life.
And sleep. Good luck with that.
