Some thoughts on prewar and sportscard top 200..

I was reading through the top 200 sportscards list from Joe Orlando and noticed that many of the early prewar listed were from the common T206, T205, Goudey sets. No Caramel's listed..No T3 Turkey Reds..just the basic stuff.

Any thoughts as to why the caramels or T3's aren't given their due....is scarcity play a role in determining what is mainstream 200?

Scarcity in the terms there isn't enough of those cards to create a large market outside of hardcore prewar collectors. Also, there isn't enough high grade examples of those years to really push the guys that only collect PSA 7-9 material.

You can in "theory" collect a PSA 8 T206 set but I don't think anyone can collect a similiar conditioned T3 set as the cards just don't exist in that condition.

To some people buying PSA 4's just isn't sexy enough and his book reflects that opinion.

Also I don't have the book in front of me but he doesn't list any of the major rarities or errors either I believe so in reality it is the top 200 mainstream cards not rariest or valuable.
Currently completing the following registry sets: Cardinal HOF's, 1961 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, Bill Mazeroski Master & Basic Sets, Roberto Clemente Master & Basic Sets, Willie Stargell Master & Basic Sets and Terry Bradshaw Basic Set
