2008 Topps Mayo Football

Since it seems quite a few people took advantage of the Topps corporate discount and purchased the Mayo blasters, I thought I would start a thread for those working on the set. Hopefully I'm not the only one.

Here's some info I thought some of you would find interesting. I crunched some numbers based on the odds on the hobby and retail packs and came up with this for the Topps Mayo set.

10,000 of each base card
5000 of each SP
68 of each Princeton Mini
99 of each Yale Mini

I bought 5 blasters and actually did prettty well. I got a James Jones auto, Steve Slaton RC Jersey, a couple of the boats, the best pull was probably the Adrian Peterson Harvard 11/25. I did notice that the colation between boxes is pretty rough. I havent started to put a set together yet, but noticed that half of the cards I have multiples of five and six, even the minis, I have several dupes of all of them.

Edited to add: Aric- I think your numbers may be a tad off. On the blasters I recall the short print odds being a 1:2. Which if you consider 6 cards per pack, not counting the filler card, you would have a ratio of 11:1 between base and SP.

Nice hits mtcards. The 11:1 ratio is true but I believe you must take into account the total number of each group. There are 275 non-sp and 55sp. So 275x10k / 55x5k = 10:1.

I decided to go for the jersey set and picked up most of them pretty cheap. I think these cards are pretty sharp. For those who haven't seen them in hand, the jerseys are inserted into the mini version of the card and that mini is free floating inside an encased frame that makes it the size of a normal card.
