New Member - What to Grade Questions

Hello all,

We just got signed up with the Collector's Club and don't really know where to start. I was hoping you would be willing to answer some questions! It would certainly be appreciated.

One thing we are wondering is with the vouchers, it says they have to have a declared value of less than $500, and it says to use Beckett or whatever as a guide... so like, if they are in decent shape, but not MINT, can we send in cards that are "high book" of $500? $700? Where do they draw the line?

Other than that, basically we are curious what is worth grading? We own and operate a brick and mortar card shop among other things, so we are speaking from a reseller's point of view - as in - we want to turn these cards over and want to know where to draw the line as far as what is better to sell raw and ungraded, and what is worth slabbing to increase it's resale value.

I have also heard a million times: NO MATTER WHAT, your first time sending in cards to grade, you WILL BE DISAPPOINTED... and we don't want to waste grading vouchers image

So! I have a few examples, but basically we were looking to send in some cards from a recent collection of '62 baseball cards... so here are a few scans and ANY information on which players/cards by value or whatever are worth grading would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you! We are excited to take the grading plunge - never graded a card in my life... here are the links to the scans:

I would prolly grade the ones you have shown, but I
    would NOT expect any high-grades.

    Lots of centering issues.

    ..........................

Study some 4s thru 9s on EBAY to get an idea of what
    each number means.

Read and understand the PSA grading standards.

    ........

    good luck!

CARD VALUES ARE FOR INSURANCE PURPOSES... Sorry caps..

you could list all these at $100 and be fine...
I think your Mantle will grade psa 6
    I wouldn't grade the perry
and the Mays all star I am worried it is trimmed.. if not.. centering = psa 7

the other 3 are a little too small to be sure but psa 6-7 range is reasonable

    I agree with the others.
They look like 6's to me. Can't see the smaller cards too well, but centering is a problem.
You'll get better with practice and will be able to decipher between grades as you submit
more and more. You might also want to look over the guidelines on grades so you'll know
    what to expect.

I would say PSA 5's and 6's. Most would be worth grading. If nothing else, but to make sure they are not trimmed.

I would only submit the Mantle from your group.
You're pretty safe with the Mick at any grade. Don't be in a rush to submit. Take your time and get some reference from reading through these threads and. image

I agree with Jim (jimrad) that you should not be in a rush to submit.

Using your Free Sub Voucher for more expensive cards, that you may already have or that you will acquire down the road, might be a wise choice.

    Good luck with your grades!

Welcome to the boards! All of the cards you show would be fine to send in--5s and 6s most likely.

    Welcome...

    This is a great hobby.
  • i really like they mays all-star

the 62 yaz is one of my favorite cards.
  • Any Mantle from his playing years is a must. The other one's you show are a good choice as well, the Perry I'd wait for a grading special on, the Mays All-Star looked funny on the bottom...didn't look natural...otherwise, Welcome to the Boards! • Hi again!

So sorry for the ridiculously late reply -

Just wanted to thank everyone for the responses and advice - it is super appreciated. Someone asked about an online presence, it is a work in progress... it is about just that... present. image I'm not sure if linking sites is allowed so I won't list it.. but if you put MN for minnesota on the end of my forum name - it's pretty easy to figure image

    Thanks again everyone,

Card values are for insurance purposes AND it determines what service you need to buy.

Example, just try and send in a 1000.00 card and insure it for 200.00, PSA will charge you for the 1000.00
dollar service, whatever that may be. Express I think.

    Good for you.
