Doesn't look like it closed early... full 10 days, winning bidder in place. I think SLQ king got it.

Something smells here...Where are all the watchers that ran it up to $8000+?
A bid with 14 seconds left "wins" it?
All new bidders since the first auction?

    ???
A dealer once asked me if I noticed any three-legged buffalos on the bourse,to which I replied,"...no,but I saw alot of two-legged jackasses..."

Something "smells" you say? Remember the fellow(s) that ran up my $10,000 (reserve not met) bid a couple weeks ago, including dbldie55 who swore up and down he was bidding $8000 because he said I said "it was probably worth $10,000". Where were all those bidder(s) today when I didn't bid in this auction?

As I said before, there was nothing the seller was doing wrong at that prior sale or now with respect to this nickel. My issue was with the bidder(s) in that first auction. Or, did a "$10,000" nickel drop to $1750" in 2 weeks? Whatever. image Wondercoin.

It sure did slip under the radar this time around!
I guess everyones "watch" list was full,or they all discovered new ways of watching without screwing up the bidding frenzy(or lack of)this go-around.image
Wish I could`ve bought this coin so cheap, but something tells me I couldn`t...image

Wow, that is quite a difference!
  • See the other thread that started all this discussion, it sold for over $10k, according to Bob. -mark-
  • So, which one was "sold privately for well over $10,000"?
    1941D MS68FS #1, or 1941D MS68FS #2 (the one eBay says sold for $1775.00)?
And, if #2 is a pop 1, are they not the same coin?!?
Seems like somebody took one heck of a loss, here, or I'm Totally confused! image

    Confused in pop 1 land,

Don: My guess is it should all be worked out tomorrow. The 41(d) nickel is only a pop 1 coin and, yes, a dealer from Las Vegas did have the high bid on the coin in the ebay auction tonight.

Out of courtesy to the seller and high bidder, let's let this one rest for a day. Again, my best guess is that the entire situation should, hopefully, be all worked out within the next 24 hours. At that time, the status of the 41(d) should be clear to all. image Wondercoin.

I just walked in, I was 2000 miles from home acting as best man for my best friends wedding and I see this thread. Sorry I missed the auction, but sometimes "life" takes over from the fairytail life I live. Guess I missed the opportunity of a lifetime here.

  • Why did the seller take such a paper loss?? If the reserve was lower the first time around they could have easily tripled what they let it go for.... did greed come into play the first time, followed by a fire sale??

    Just wondering.

    "clear to all..."
Anything of real(?) value sold on ebay will not be "clear to all".
I think this is all BS,there`s too much funny stuff going on behind the scenes to suit me...
The only thing "clear" to me is that I would not spend this kind of $$$ on ebay no matter how "good" it "appears" to be; with all this hocus- pocus going on.Reread the other thread, you`d think it was the missing 1913 Lib nickel, and now everyone could care less.
    Hey suckers,this way to the egress....<click x>image
