1971-72 Topps basketball box at BBCE

Anyone see this?

One amazing box

Absolutely ridiculous. I think a much better buy than the 79/80 OPC hockey box if you have $15 k lying around. It's probably 20 or 50x rarer.

People sometimes ask about investments on here in cards. That box would be a solid investment. Hard to imagine much downside in that.

Only issue is the HOF RC's - only Cowens, Issel and Archibald. That's not a the RC power of Gretzky.

Yes, but there is the rarity factor. And it's also loaded with other HOF player. I wish I owned it! image
  • I'd love to own a pack of that... group rip anyone (I wish!)

Ah, sweet memories. We use to sneak off the playground during recess (4th grade) and run a block down the street to the Kwik shop with pocket full of dimes to buy (and probably steal image ) a few of these. To this day the trio stickers are my favorite set. John

Something tells me he wouldn't want to break this box up into a group rip. What a box!
  • The rarity of it makes it unheard of.

In the 90's, I remember Mark Murphy (or one of the big wax dealers) had a 12 count display box, and a 24. The 12 count one was really rare. The packs have always been rare. In the 90's they sold for $250-300 when you could find them.

By far my favorite Topps basketball set - makes me want to put together a raw set.
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.

Looks like someone bought the box, any ideas who? I know Hal Steinbrenner has bought early 70's boxes before.

John ... remember a few years ago when Hal was buying all kinds of unopened material on eBay? When we bid we knew we were going to lose! LOL He was paying CRAZY prices for everything! He bought a lot of unopened non-sport ... especially the "WHEELS" packs!

If I remember right he bought a 70 fb box I want for some ungodly number, like close to 5 figures, oh well.

Also, on a second note, looks like the packs may have been sent in for grading, 9 just popped up on the population report, 1 seven and four each of 8's and 9's.
