1955 AA FB Set

Just wanted to see who else is collecting or working on high grade 1955 AA FB Sets?

Anyone that might happen to have any PSA-9 from this yet, please let me know.

I am presently working on (2) sets from 1955. The 1st set I am doing now has (28) PSA-9's and counting. The 2nd one I am trying to complete in PSA-8's.

If you would happen to have any cards to sell, or would just like to discuss this set, drop me an email.

rruth@comcast.net.

Many Thanx
Rob Ruth

ROB - Welcome to the boards!
the '55 set is great, a classic. That was the 1st PSA set that I worked on, almost 5 years ago. I disbanded it a year or 2 later with regrets, the near-set was mostly 8's w/ some 7's. I keep thinking of re-assembling that set. Its only 100 cards, and is loaded w/ HOF'ers and legends like Rockne, Thorpe, Grange etc... Then you add the SP's and its a neat but do-able challenge. In 9's though you have your work cut out for you. Good Luck and have fun!...jay

    Hello robr1967 (ROB),

I have recently started the set as well - it is not as easy as I had first thought. There is stiff competition for the PSA 8 & 9s. The SPs are tough!

I think that I have seen you in the EBAY auctions?

I will definitely keep in touch we you regarding this set - I had just caught your post.

    Thanks!

I too am working on the 55 AA topps set. I, however am trying to fill it in PSA 7 & 6 no Qualifiers, preferably 7. Not quite as adventurous as the rest of you. Hopefully I won't have that much competition on ebay for the 7's. I'm interested in buying 6 & 7's also, if anyone has any. E-mail me at fmoase@hotmail.com. My ebay name is capthook200 with over 70 positive feedback. I have mostly been buying on ebay, but I recently sent a #33 Higgins to be graded and was happy receiving a 7 on that card. How are the rest of you assembling your sets: getting them graded yourself, ebay etc...
Any avaiable 6-7's would be appreciated.
    thanks
    Fred

    Hello Baseballfan (capthook200) -

Welcome to the PSA forum as well!

I have seen you in the EBAY auctions as well - you may have started this set earlier than me. I am working on this set in PSA 7s for SPs, 8s for STARS and 9s for COMMONS as they become available.

I will also keep in touch we you regarding this set.

    Thanks!

  • Jay, thank you for the welcome.

Sixdart, you are correct in that people that know no better, do get into the set thinking, ah a 100 cards I can do that. The competition for quality PSA-8's & 9's can be very tough.

I am very happy, I was just able to pick up 1 of the 2 toughest cards in the set in a PSA-9. Card #82 Wojo. There are only 11 PSA-8's graded, and 3 PSA-9's. This card and the Charlie O'Rourke, card #90 are the toughest to aquire in the set. O'Rourke there are only 11 PSA-8's period. The 1 psa-9 for that card does not exist anymore in a PSA holder. The bidding for an O'Rourke is usually very intense, if and when they ever come up publicly for sale. When it was listed as a COMMON, the last 2 that I know of sold publicly for $312, and $475.

Presently, I have a couple extra cards. I guess you would cal lthem triplets, since i am working on 2 sets.

I have card #80 Oosterbaan in PSA-8. And #90, O'Rourke, in a PSA 7 or 8(OC) up for trade for the right offer.

Anyone interested, drop me an email. rruth@comcast.net

Sixdart, yes my ebay name is robr1967, in which you just outbid me on the Myslinski. Good Luck.

    Many Thanx

    Hello alohaet,

E-mail me with any of your prices. Unless you are starting to bulid the set now?

Sorry about the delay - I travel quite frequently with my company.

    Thank you,

I have found the 55 Topps All-America set to be the easiest of the 1948-55 period to assemble in psa 8. The 48 and 49 Leaf sets are infinately harder and certainly the 52 Bowman Large with its short prints is much more difficult a well.
  • Sixdart, as you know how nice these cards are and the difficulty parting with them. I have noticed that the PSA 8's sell pretty well on ebay. I just have not made up my mind on whether to sell or continue to buy. Did you win any of the ones you bid on?
