Price Discrepancy - T206 Ty Cobb - bat off shoulder

Anyone have any idea why there is such a big difference in price between these two Ty Cobb bat off shoulder cards that both sold in the recent MHCC auction:
Lot 79: PSA 4.5 (no qualifiers) Piedmont back - $4,500
Lot 81: PSA 4.0 (no qualifiers) Piedmont back - $1,600

Take a look at the actual lots if you get a chance and let me know!!

I actually bought the psa 4, so am curious if I got a good deal or if I missed something the affected the price.

Thanks!

The 4 was right at VCP average....the 4.5 actually set a new high....It would be interesting to see if the winning bidder actually follows thru, as for that kind of money, you could have gotten a nice 6.5 or 7.......

Thanks bobbyw!! That is very helpful. How can I get VCP pricing?

I am fairly new to these message boards, but find them incredibly helpful. It is really a great community of friendly, knowledgeable and helpful people who are passionate about our hobby!!

If you (or anyone else reading this) get a chance, check out my youtube videos (link below) of my collection -- lots of high-end vintage and a complete '51 bowman set ex-mt or better. I know there are MANY people out there (particularly people who frequent this site) with a much better collections than me, but as far as I have seen, my collection is the best on youtube... Hope you enjoy...

I am suprised bobbyvcp never responded to this.....there is a web site called Vintage Card Prices.......for a (cough cough) nominal fee, you can see what averages are for cards in certain grades......I believe I pay around $18 a month......
