  • Why are slabbed Britannias so hard to find?

    For a couple of reasons.

    Most were issued as bullion coins.

    Second the mintage for any given year run from as low as 44,816 to a maximum of 100,000.

    Also first sales of them normally run at a premium above other bullion type issues.

    Didn't see this earlier - sorry.

    The other reason they're not as common as some other bullion issues is that the Royal Mint can't seem to figure out how to properly package britannias in order to preserve their surfaces before they arrive at the buyer's end. they may also be having trouble with striking pressure, but I'm not as certain about that.
