opinions on a 1967 seaver

image

I have had this card for quite a while. about 10+ years
When I bought it it was the highest sgc card graded for seaver and there were no psa 10's. only a few 9's.
Question: Since I only collect psa cards...should I send in for a review? crack and send in? I am not a psa member but thinking of joining again.
Back is just as nice. IMO this is an absolute no brainer psa 8.5 and could easily be a 9.

I know this forum has many experts. What would you do if you had this card?

Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't crack it out. I'd send it in for a review 1st. You can always crack & sub it when you get it back from PSA if you're not satisfied with the grade.

I've sent a few high grade Mantles in for a review and have been extremely happy with the results. My last one was a 1966 Bazooka Mantle SGC 92 that came back a PSA 9.

    That Seaver is a beauty!

I also would not crack it out.
From what we can see, it could easily cross to a 9, but it is hard to tell if there are surface issues.

Those of you suggesting to send it in for a crossover review, would you suggest that he set a "minimum grade"? If so, what grade would you suggest? 8? 8.5? 9?

That card needed to be sent before PSA went to half grades. The odds of it getting a 9 now are significantly reduced, no matter how you send it.

I guess it all depends...do you feel lucky, punk?

    Heh, couldn't resist.

Anyway, my opinion would also be to send it in for review without the crack open and crack open ONLY if you feel you can without the risk of damaging the card to do so. The card is worth too much to risk the damage factor.

If those 4 corners are sharp, I think it would be worth the money to go for the 9 ... why settle for less?

Definitely put down a minimum grade. As far as what should be the minimum, you can always start by requesting a 9. If it doesn't make it, re-submit with the next lowest grade you can live with it. I would recommend researching whether a PSA 8 sells for more than an SGC 92. A PSA 8 may sell for more than an SGC 92. Whatever you do, do not crack it and submit raw. There is a high risk of "trim" or "minimum size".

Jay, What do you want for the Seaver in the holder its in today?

Here recently I submitted 13 10s for crossover. I put a min. grade of 9. They graded 6 of them 9s and no 10s. The rest were sent back to me "min. grade". There are a lot of thoughts about the reason for the low return, but that is for another day. Just remember there is no voucher given if it doesn't meet your grade listed. Whatever you do, I would not recommend taking it out of the current holder. Just my thoughts.

To answer Joe's concern...the card is definitely not trimmed. It's tight in the holder and matches up with a metal card I use as a blank.

It will be a winter project as I have other cards that need to be crossed over. Thank you andy for offering to send in for me.

Matt, thanks for offer but don't want to sell. I have a high end psa 8 already so its not affecting my rc post war set. In my eyes its a 8.5 minimum. If its a 9 then it would be a card I generally cant afford to buy. I can never seem to save up as I keep buying other stuff.

I have doubles of a lot of cards and will offer them to registry guys as I get time to go thru them.

I would say that it has no chance of a 9 and about 5% chance of an 8.5 and 25% chance of an 8 if sent on crossover service. You would have to crack it out to get an unbiased opinion.

    Completely agree.
