Isn't Brazil the same place that terminally owes the IMF Billions and has inflation up the wazoo? Should be fun watching them put Olympic venues and infrastructure together.

BTW, I bear no sour grapes. I am quite pleased that Chicago did not get stuck with this money trap.

I am from Chicago and have stated that Rio should have gotten the bid all along. First, and foremost, the Olympics have never been in South America....and isn't the mantra of the Olympics to touch every corner of the Earth?

From a self-interest standpoint, Chicago needs to get its own house in order. The Police are working without a contract. The infrastructure is crumbling and needs fixing before expansion for the Olympics takes place, the crime in certain neighborhoods is staggering, and a 10.25% sales tax makes doing business difficult. Add in that Mob Boss Daley (ummm....I mean Mayor) would reward his buddies with fat contracts and you can rest assured that cost over runs would take place (more than expected)......and guess who pays for it?

And yes, Obama was put in his place, albeit who cares about the IOC? Obama went there to reward those who put him in office. I personally don't like to see our President (parties aside) treated like this. Definitely a mistake on the part of the White House, and someone's head needs to role. Obama should stop promising things and doing things.....good to have him home. Anyone else notice yesterday that the unemployment rate increased to 9.8%? Where are those jobs, Mr. President? The ones you will create....ummmmm I mean create or save?

It is likely that Rio will be an unsafe place for criminals to roam,
