C'mon now, stop trying to hijack this thread... those are colonials

I purchased my first pioneer piece in 1972 from the April-May 1972 Bowers and Ruddy Rare Coin Review (FPL), number 14 issue. It was an 1849 $5 Mass & Cal copper pattern (Kagin 2b). It cost me (and my dad
The other interesting story involves a Cal Fractional Gold piece I sold to a friend a year or so ago. I was assisting him find some nice pieces for his Cal Gold Collection and located a super BG-799A in a PCGS 65 holder. Due to the economy, he had to sell his Cal Gold collection earllier this year. It was sold through Heritage. Turns out the BG-799A was misattributed, and actually the reverse was found to be a previously unknown reverse die, and is the discovery piece for the variety. The coin was given a new designation, BG-799GG, and was sold at this year's ANA Heritage Platinum Sale in August. My friend got quite a bargain, I learned to check both obverse and reverses all the time when verifying attributions.

Alaska was not a colony. It was a U.S. territory. There's a big difference.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

No, but the place where they circulated was in Palmer, AK, within a government sponsored colony. The legistation even referred to the program as a colony.
<< <i>I was the underbidder and it was mine for 5 days until the last 16 minutes of the auction... does that count?

Very nice....

North Carolina was never a territory. Nice piece of privately issued gold coin though.

It probably would've been more appropriate for Lakesammon to entitle the thread as "Territorials and Private Issues for the weekend" since he opened the thread with a private issue. California was already a state by 1861 also, much like North Carolina was by 1831-1834.
Side note: I've been seriously contemplating expanding my interests to Bechtler issues considering their ties to NC history and gold sources... not to mention they look pretty cool.
