Too many auctions ending so close together - what are you picking up and where?

Who is going after what and where? I'm in on H&S (day 1 and hopefully 2), Verkman, and Premier, and will post the wins once they are done. Who's bidding elsewhere (Mastro, B&L, Heritage, etc.)?
Who is Rober Maris?

  • I've got my eye on one item in the Heritage auction but it'll probably go for much higher than I am currently (if not ever) able to spend. I'm also looking at a few lots at Mile High. And is it just me or is the volume of high quality items coming to auction steadily increasing?

The way the economy has been, I'm surprised more high quality items haven't been hitting the market.

    Hi Sean,

My heart goes out to any collector/seller that has run into a major catastrophe, like job loss or family emergency, that has forced him/her to desperately part with high quality items/cards.

But in a lot of cases, maybe more than we think, sellers are simply refusing to settle for today's somber prices for their top dogs. This is also a reason for the huge increase in overpriced eBay BINs with BOs.

All the auction catalogs I get enjoy a quick trip the recycle bin. Pigs will fly before I pay a "buyer's premium" for anything. If I need a card that badly, then I really don't need it.

I'm sure in 2 weeks I'll get treated to all the "record breaking" press releases from the auction douchers, the essence of the hobby's hyperbole with no one around to do any fact checking.

I won one lot in Huggins & Scott....I like vintage and break up potential lots, and for the most part, I thought lots went VERY HIGH...to the point where, when you break them up, are you REALLY making anything, after Ebay/Paypal fees?.....I have won lots in the past, and last night, IMO lots went high.....

Me thinks lots of bogus prices in those big auctions. My PSA 8 Maris-Cepeda card is still for sale at $4800--no takers so far. There was an underbidder who had a bid of about $4900 in a big auction house. Oh I forgot... he probably just bought the one on EBAY at the time for $165.image

Spot on. Whenever you have loose rules like allowing employees to bid on items, it's an invitation to fraud. I mean, at least on Ebay there's a chance I'm not being outbid by a shiller.
