Well, someone is trying to sell these to me "off eBay". If they are indeed fake, I will give PSA the e-mail address and eBay account they came from if they want to do something about it.
I am not posting what gives them away as I don't want scammers who may lurk here use my eye to correct obvious flaws, but I posted a guide on how to spot fakes in mantles..
Solid right in the realm of the fake mantle handbook..
The Koufax is so obvious a novice can see that one..
I think it's time for PSA to use new flips and slabs. This is reaching territory where it's starting to seem like they don't care... and that can't be good for business.
This is really scary. Are these holders fake too or just the card? I wonder how many of these things are out in the market? I think it is time psa upgrades the flip and holder. I am really surprised they haven’t yet since they could charge a reholdering fee.
Anyone who thinks those slabs/flips are real, has never really noticed a real PSA flip. PSA flips have four lines of text. Each of the flips in this thread only have three lines of text. Ergo.....they are fake.
That doesn't even touch on the absolute complete fakeness of the three cards (which is easy to see).
I just hope that the OP is not really the owner of these cards wondering if they will pass the real vs fake test. Forgive me for being suspicious but there are a lot of scammers that try to come through here. It's always odd when a NUBE comes here with such major cards in slabs. If you're legit, dont get scammed by these cards.
Folks asking for the flips to be changed or "upgraded" need to give a moment's pause.
A change in the flip would have an adverse impact on cards already graded and in holders and collections. Changing the flip won't stop the scamsters. It won't change anything as there is a standard flip that can be reverted to. Regardless of the changes one might think of, there are still millions of cards in old holders with old flips and they will still be in old holders and old flips if a change were effected. All that a change would do is create confusion in the hobby and make many skeptical altogether.
What difference would it make if PSA produced a new flip? If they modified the holder? Do you think that examples such as these would be stopped? They would just use the standard holder and dummy up an old style flip and claim the card was graded before the change. It's a nice idea in principle, but it would do nothing in actual practice.

While true of most of the later generation flips, it is not uncommon to find "modern" flips with 3 lines of text and the descriptor line being blank (the third line in the flip's text progression:
1. Year/Manufacturer - Card Number 2. Player Name - Grade Alpha and/or Alpha Numeric (Older Flips) 3. Description - Grade Numeric (Half Grade Generation) 4. Bar Code - Certification Number
Also, if I recall some of the earliest flips, they were 3 text lines but also an easily identifiable font.

Correct, but there was a space there for the text, if it had been necessary:
Text Line 1 Text Line 2
Text Line 4
On the flips in this thread, there is no room for that line. All three lines of text are evenly spaced. That gives them away as fakes.

This is very true, I was wrong. I would just like them to come out with a sturdier holder that is more difficult to open then the current ones.

Not sure about the Mantles....still trying to decide.
Known spots:
San Fran area
San Diego area
North Carolina
But, now that I am here... Koufax definitely not kosher. Hard to say with the Mantle's with them being a photo instead of scan.
