FSH: 1840(O) REVERSE of 1838 SEATED HALF, PCGS Genuine + 1835 Classic Head $5 PCGS-45

One of the only U.S. circulation issues struck at a Branch Mint without a Mint mark. The medium letters reverse originally used in combination with the obverse mint marked issue of 1838. Pressed(no pun intended) into service in 1840, presumably until reverse dies with O mintmark could be prepared. Estimates on mintage for the WB-101 thought to be 112,000. A total of 34 coins graded by PCGS as of 4/2008, with only 5 examples graded in Mint State. This example an early die stage of the reverse (lacking extensive die cracks seen on late die stage). Currently encapsulated by PCGS as Genuine. Erroneously coded 98(damage). The surfaces have been whizzed, which should have earned a designation of code 94(altered surfaces). $1200 Delivered.
