As a Massachusetts native that was forced to move to California for my career, I can answer this easily. The reason no one watches the Angels outside of California is that no one moves away from perpetual warm sunny days and beaches for anywhere else. Hence, there are no Angels transplants anywhere. Whereas here it's all people that left the frigid winters of the northeast for golf year round so we have a ton of Sox/Yankee fans. I haven't seen rain in 8 months. why the heck would I want to live anywhere else? I can watch every Sox game online and I have breakfast and bloody mary's with football at 10am on Sunday. Every World Series game ends by 9:30pm. Every NBA Finals game in on from 6-8:30. Yeah, I'm not trading that in for late nights, stress and rainy days.
  • I always watch the Angels.......when they are playing the Rangers.
  • What Vito said.

But I'm not outside California so I don't count.

Hey, I was not looking for reasons ..... but nice write up.

Im just looking for 5 California, Anaheim, Los Angeles, or whatever they are calling themselves this year fans outside of the state. Talk about a post season ratings nightmare of a team image

  • It could be a lot worse. The Twins can still make the playoffs.

I wouldn't be too worried about the TV ratings for Angels games though. There's a lot of people in Southern California and it looks like they will play the Red Sox in the ALDS. Red Sox fans from all over will tune in for sure.

I watch the Angels on occasion. I usually just pick a good game and stick with it.
  • When I travel I do.

Living life with 360 sunny days a year here in the OC and watching Angels games and attending when ever I can. I live 20 minutes from Angels stadium, live is sweet!

  • On a side note, when the angels are the visiting team, attendance is the lowest among all major leaague teams. home teams only average 26,000 when playing the angels

I enjoy watching the Angels play and don't find them boring at all. Scioscia brings an aggressive style, the players usually execute well, and they score a ton of runs. I like 'em. (I must admit, however, that I live about 25 minutes from the Big A.)

Angels fans outside of California,............................... HAH,.................... try Angles fans outside of the LA Basin.

Up here in the SF Bay Area and in the Capital City of Sacramento, there are not very many people at all who follow the Angels. The Dodgers have a following, probably because of the longevity of the California Dodgers - Giants rivalry and the fact that So. Cal. born persons many times move to No. Cal. for work as an adult.

Angels fans just do not seem to be around much.

Remember the Angles v. Giants World Series back a few years ago. Talk about strange bedfellows.

The Giants had 6 outs to go in Game 6 to win the series 4-2 and blew the lead, resulting in a 3-3 Series tie. There was little doubt that the Angels would win Game 7. Too bad for the Gigantes.

I watched them when the Rangers were still in contention. (ok, actually I didn't watch them unless they were playing the Rangers, but I did follow their scores)

I'm one. I grew up in Anaheim but am now up here in the 9th Circle of baseball hell with the Chicago teams. They both are terrible.

  • And to the original question, other than the "big-name" teams (Yankees, Sox, Dodgers, Cubs, etc) how many teams really have fans watching closely outside of their market? At least 1/2 the teams in the league fit this thread.

Uh, yeah, and WTF? They are a great organization from top to bottom: front office, management, players, minor leagues, the way they approach the game. There's actually a lot to like if you bother to take your homer glasses long enough to take a look. Far better than the "rent a pennant" enterprise that exists in the Bronx.

No link. They were talking about it on one of the Angels broadcast last week. I would have never guess the Angels drew the worst. They average over 40,000 a game in Anaheim

  • In the Angels' defense, they do have to play a lot of games against teams that don't draw a lot of fans to their home games to start with. That's going to draw down their road average attendance somewhat.

Seattle is 17th, Texas is 18th, and Oakland is dead last in home game attendance while the Angels are 5th.
