I've gone nuts! Opened five boxes of 97 SP Authentic Basketball today...

I am about to open the last one now. I am not happy about it as I have had these stashed away for about 10 years. Not much to show for it. No McGrady RC's that will grade a 9. A lot of autos, but some duplicates, and no huge stars.

If anyone needs any singles to complete sets let me know.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

    What autos did you get?

I'd like a Duncan RC if you have an extra.

This will sound like BS, but in the first seven packs of the last box I got a special envelope looking thing in the pack with a .... Vin Baker BuyBack autograph. In the second pack after that I got an instant win Michael Jordan redemption card for an 8 X 10 photo. The redemption expired in 1999. After further review, and to ease my frustration, I realized that it was an un-autographed photo that I won anyway. Not the one that would now be worth four figures.

But I bet the redemption card will look nice in a PSA 9 holder.

The McGrady card is just as condition sensitive as the 93 Jeter and 94 Arod. He will be a HOFer, even if he does not return to his old form after his knee injuries.

And in the second to last pack of the boxes, an Eddie Jones Sign of the Times Autograph (I got the same card in one of the earlier boxes too).

Did you get a #32-Hubert Davis? It is the only single I need from that set.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • I know that purple foil ba$tard is a tough card, but I just think the McGrady RC will be looked upon in the same light as Webber RCs are now- great players with tons of potential whose careers were cut short by injuries. I personally don't think either are desreving of HOF status at this point but I could see either being voted in. The Duncan RC however, I see as being his best RC except the Chrome refractor. If they would've done just the Future Watch Duncan and not the regular it would be a huge card.

I have an extra Hubie. He is a local kid. Let me know where to send it...

If the Duncan were a foil, it would be off the charts!

McGrady won two NBA scoring titles. I am sure no player has ever done that and not ended up in the HOF.

In fact, every player who has ever won an MVP is in the HOF. I will have to check on scoring titles, Bernard King jumps to mind...

  • I remember wanting to bust some of these when I was a kid, but couldn't afford it.

I agree with this. The green #165 Duncan is a very tough card. I bought a PSA 9 last week for $12. Long run it will be worth more than the regular SP 128. His best RC is probably the Topps Redemption. Duncan is the most underrated player in terms of current card values. Again, this is just my opinion.
