New baby on the way - my coins must go!

My wife and I are planning for a new baby. This will be our second child. Right now we both work full time while our 1 1/2 year is in daycare full time as well. When the new baby arrives, the plan is for my wife to quit her job and stay at home with both children. I am very excited about baby number two but sad because I must sell the best coins in my collection to pay off our home equity line. I am listing some of my coins on the BS&T forum right now. Here's an opportunity for you to fill some holes in your registry set or upgrade to PR70DCAM's.

Thanks in advance for the congratulations and for checking out my coins for sale.

    Scott,

Sorry to see you having to sell off. Congrats on the new baby though. Some great prices on the coins you are selling. Good luck with the sale.

The extra time your wife can spend with your children will be the best investment you have ever made.

  • Kind of a Catch 22. Congrats on the Bambino, sorry to see the coins go, I'll see if I can help us both.

  • When my second was born I had to sell off my 2cent piece set in 65 as well as alot of CU currency. It would have been nice to have kept them but I wouldn't trade my little girl for all the coins at Long Beach.
  • Thanks everyone!

I will not be selling my entire collection - just the more expensive coins. I have a proof set run in original US Mint packaging from 1968 to present that I will be keeping. I will probably crack out a lot of the coins and submit them over time. My state quarters in PR69DC will probably go, so will the proof silver eagles. The eagles will be the hardest to let go for me though - something about the classic obverse design on a big solid coin. I already sold the 95-W ASE for a few dollars less than I paid - not bad considering I could have lost a lot on that one coin alone. As long as I get about 95% of what I paid on my coins, I'm happy.

As a side note, I am breaking even on almost every sale. That's the good news. It probably means I bought fair priced coins to begin with. The only coins I seem to be losing significant money on are the ones purchased from a dealer directly rather than at auction. Most of those purchases where to fill the reamining holes for a set so I knew I would have to pay for it. I would say the modern proof market is still quite strong.
