Props to Miami Hurricanes football

Is there a tougher opening (4) game schedule in all of college football than Miami's (4) openers?

Then unranked, Miami beat (18) Florida State to open the season on the road and followed up with a decisive week 2 win against the 14th ranked Georgia Tech.

Now the Canes have to play (13) Virginia Tech on the road, and then follow that up playing week 4 against powerhouse (12) Oaklahoma.

2 down two to go? We shall see!

P.S. Too bad Miami doesn't have openers like the Florida Gators? Charleston Southern W 62-3 & Troy 56-6 image

Miami's opening games:

Thu, Sep 17 (14) Georgia Tech ......................... W 33-17

I'll give them props. It's refreshing to see a major program open the season against non-cupcakes. It's also good to see Miami competitve again. I hope they can keep it going.

Props for their schedule this year, but Miami played Charleston Southern for their opener last year..... And during their 2001 national championship season (greatest college team ever) they played...Troy. I won't defend the Gaytors for how they won't play non conference games out of state, but almost every FBS team employs this method of scheduling FCS, or easier teams.

The last time the Gators opened the season against a quality opponent was in 1987. You are right, they used to play Miami but they couldn't win
so they dropped them. Why play a tought non-divison game if you don't have to? We all know that SOS means nothing in the BCS, at least at
    the top of the rankings.
  • As a Georgia fan, Tech friends of mine really let me have it after we lost to OK State. A few people just 24 hours ago told me that the "U"was going to get stomped by GT last night. I still haven't heard from any of them today!!! image
  • To answer your question, no, there is not a tougher four game opener then Miami's.

The reason they're doing this is to probably raise some funds for the program. It's a shame the lack of support
that team gets. The Gators and Seminoles always sell out, yet the Canes can't fill half the stadium at times, and there
were plenty of good, empty seats last night.

It's probably all about money and trying to regain some credibility to a fallen program.

Miami has scheduled plenty of cupcakes in the past, and they are lucky that Troy and Charleston Southern took their place
in Gainesville this year, as they would have been taken to the shed by the Gators too.

No sir, not any more. Stadium holds 83,000 and there was an ANNOUNCED (paid tickets, not butts in seats) of 71,000 for their game vs. Jax St. Yes, it was just Jax St, but 5 years ago thatd be sold out. They also averaged about 75-78,000 the past few years....

USF plays FSU in 2 weeks in Tallahasse and USF has nearly 15,000 fans going to the game....typical visiting teams get alloted 5,000.
