Help Pennsylvania!!!
Just received this email from a dealer from who I sometimes buy. Please help!
Governor Rendell of Pennsylvania is trying to eliminate the PA state sales tax exemption on precious metals and coins. Our PA lobbyist says that phone calls from dealers/collectors across the country to the governor's office will make an important difference in preventing this. But you must call TODAY. Tomorrow literally could be too late.
Kathy Sarosi and PAN (Pennsylvania Association of Numismatists) have been calling, faxing, and emailing all week, but now they need the help of dealers nationwide.
PLEASE MAKE THIS ONE PHONE CALL NOW.
Thanks, Eloise & Diane @ ICTA
Call Governor Rendell's office at 717-787-2500.
Say you want to talk to someone on the Governor's Legislative or Budget Staff. Be polite, but firm, and let the receptionist know that it is imperative that you speak with someone TODAY. Please note that the staff is under a great deal of pressure right now and may be a bit rushed. Don't be offended. Your call is very important in making the point that MANY people around the US oppose the Governor's intent to eliminate our PA exemption, so hang in there!
Here's a guide for you. Comments that are short and to the point are the most effective, but you may add to this if you like.
My name is ______________ of ______________(your company name) in
_____________(your city & state.) I want to register my concern that the Governor is seeking to eliminate the sales tax exemption on precious metals and coin investment products.
If he eliminates this exemption, I will no longer attend any coin shows and conventions in Philadelphia or anywhere in the state of Pennsylvania. I will go only to conventions-and spend my money-in states that are friendly to my business and the industry's convention business.
Would you please be sure the Governor gets this message? Thank you.
Email us if you have questions and let us know how your phone call went.

they were all in meetings,, can you believe that. Still working after 3:30 pm?
Our state is in dire straits right now, with no budget since 1 July. They are looking at many avenues to collect revenue, and I hope they can avoid tax on bullion. Rendell, very truthfully, is a lame duck and DOES NOT CARE about what we want.
Since Pat couldn't get through, I'm not trying to call right now. But I will contact our local representatives.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

My uncle was a former state rep, he's not home right now so I emailed him for some advice on who/how to contact. Will share if I get something new.

<< <i>Thousands of visitors to the Whitman show this month may not travel to Philadelphia again if the 6% tax is levied again. >>
In Philadelphia the sales tax is 7% (the city adds 1%)
Philadelphia is in such bad shape financially that they would be fools to risk losing conventions like this.
Then again, that is what politicians do....

The Pittsburgh area (all of Allegheny County) is also 7%, which would affect the PAN shows in Monroeville.
Sales alone up 13% , Car Tax up 100%!!!!
Tax revenue has PLUNGED to the point Calif. and City of LA are now talking possible Bankruptcy to break Union Contracts
I.E. (Six Figure Pensions for Retired 47 year old State Workers via Pension Spiking) one small example.
The only tax not increased was Corp. Income tax which revenue went up slighty.

government workers by 25%! Many retired in early 50's after 25 years working.
How many can enjoy 40 years of retirement? Read the obits sometime. Great life time stories, however
one theme is re-occuring. Government retirees; 30 to 50 year retirements. Private sector retirement; 0 to 10 years.
I am not complaining, just explaining part of our TAX increases.
