There is a similar mosaic hanging at the ESPN Zone in Manhattan with vintage cards....it was fun to scan. All Yankees if I remember, including a 65 Mick.
Kiss me once, shame on you. Kiss me twice.....let's party.
There are computer programs that will take a collection of images (like the micro cards) and recreate a target image (like the Babe picture). It looks cool, but I don't think he just eyeballed it. I thought about creating posters like this, but there were too many trademark issues. I'm guessing that one of the reasons these things cost so much is because he's working with CMG. My office is decorated with 8x10 size pictures of a 33 Goudey Ruth created from other 33 Goudeys, a T206 Wagner created from T206s, and a 52 Mantle created from other 52 Topps. You're absolutely right. There are a bunch of free programs that will do that, and you can even specify the directory of images from which it will create it, and also limit the number of duplicates, etc. It would take a long time and lots of effort, but wouldn't be that hard to recreate this.
