Help me find a German coin...

that would be representative of the area where Beerfelden is located, preferably dated 1657 or 1678. I managed to trace my family history back to the village of Etzean, about 30 km east of Beerfelden. In 1678 Hans Joe (with an umlaut over the e) married Christina Scheuermann at the church in Etzean. Hans was born in 1657. I'm not sure what province(?) that area fell into at that time. Help a guy out all you German experts!

These towns are in Hesse-Darmstadt (Landgrafschaft Hessen-Darmstadt), shouldn't be a problem finding coins from this area..
    Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info. Anyone have a pic of an example? At least now I know where to look.

    Hi Mojo,
During the time period you mentioned there were 2 rulers of Hessia-Darmstadt.
Ludwig VI ruled from 1661-1678 so most larger coins from that era will have him, here is an example of one from his rule. After Ludwig was Ernst Ludwig who ruled frm 1678-1739. The Hessian Coat of Arms has a lion facing left on most shields as you will notice.
    Have fun!
    Jim
