Pedro, now 5-0 !!!

Allegedly washed up and over the hill,

Pedro Martinez is now 5-0 with a fine 2.87 ERA !

Currently the Phillie hurler has the best career adjusted ERA +, of any starting pitcher ever, better than Walter Johnson, Lefty Grove, or Cy Young.

It is still la bit early to judge his spot in baseball history, and he has been less than an ironman over the years, but it does seem likely he just might be, THE best starter of his era, perhaps topping Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, and Greg Maddux ???

Pedro looked excellent against the Mets yesterday. Everything was working for him, with the offspeed stuff unhittable.
  • injury prone and a bit of a head case, one of the best of the last 20 years, but i cannot rank him ahead of Maddux. I would have put Clemens ahead of him if not for the roid's issue.

I thought about making a similar comments considering it was the Mets, but didn't want to take away from Pedro's pitching performance so far this year

This year, the Mets would only have a chance against Ba Ba Booey!

Pedro was one of the best when he was younger and healthy....If you want to base a suggestion of Martinez's best year versus Maddux's best year....Maybe you have an argument comparing Martinez to Maddux...If you are basing their total careers, then I say get off the crack pipe please.lol
Same thing if you compare him to the Rocket.

    Respectfully,

In his prime I would take him over the aforementioned guys.

    Steve

    Good for you.

  • Guess the Mets should have taken him before the season when they had the chance.

    Ooops.

Local reports out here in Los Angeles said the Dodgers were in regular talks with Pedro's agent....Then they didn't even offer Pedro anything?????????? I would have loved to see him pitching out here.... Phils were smart...Signing Pedro at his asking price was a no lose deal. Even though Pedro is pitching in thugtown Phillie I'm happy he's having great success.

Pedro does best his fine contemporary pitching peers, in

Actual ERA, and WHIP, plus W-L percentage, also the crucial K/BB ratio, and , perhaps the most common stat for pitcher evaluation, adjusted ERA +, and it is worthy to repeat, Pedro is THE very best all time starting pitcher, ever, in that stat.

As for durability, which has become far less critical in this age of closer/set up specialization, Pedro. as well as Maddux and Randy Johnson, all have a CG +, complete games in relation to their league average, of well above 200, more than twice as likely to throw a complete game, Clemens is right there at 196 also.

Perhaps a bit unfair, to label Pedro's quality in comparison to the others, as substance induced ?

Amazing - What a pleasant surprise. Phillies management just seems to do almost everything right, whereby Mets management seems to do almost everything wrong - I'm luvin' it. image

Does anyone really think Pedro would be 5 and 0 with the Mets?

I thought Sillie fans were smart, I guess not.

    I'm lovin that.
