Did I miss something?

I just finished reading another thread where it was implied that a dealer (ebay trader) was found to be altering cards (I'm not mentioning names...because I'm not sure)...but I bought three cards from that same dealer (who now appears to have been deleted from eBay) and resubmitted them to PSA all three were found to be trimmed...so where did this all go wrong?

Basically the question is? Is all this true?

And how come this has not been posted on this forum? I searched under his name and found nothing?

I'm sorry you got taken by him. It's also sad that they failed to catch the trimmed cards when originally submitted but they found them when you resubmitted them. I wonder how they got past the TPG the first time?

I had a number of cards , by the same seller , that were pretty easy to tell that they were altered , when looked at closely.

I'd love to catch some big fish , but catching altered fish at a big fish price , doesn't sit well with me .

Now I collect for fun , sets that do not have much fraud value . At least for now.

Very sorry this happened to some of us.---- Sonny

Hank when you resubbed them were they raw or reviewed in slab?

If reviewed in slab did PSA make you whole?

    Good for you.

Did you crack them out first? and were they low pop cards?

  • Remarkable and responsible work....but...I have one question.....

Did anyone look at the EXTREME color differences in the raw and slabbed
cards of KING? The slabbed cards look much, much brighter and sharper
than the raw cards. The bottom halves looked to be almost bright red,
where if you compare to the raw cards (especially the first one), they
look more ORANGE than red, or am I color blind?

Again, remarkable and painstaking work on Dan's part.

  • I popped 5 cards...all from PSA 8 holders...3 of them came back as trimmed...after much-ado...two are in PSA 8 holders again...the other is in a 7.5?? I did not know that this was going on...I seem to recall that all three of these cards were bought from that individual mentioned in the article...and yes they were low-pop cards as 9's but not as 8's...so I did not really over pay...not sure these cards were trimmed at all...because every so often I get one that comes back as trimmed...the problem in the past has been funny because I opened the card in 1961 or 62 and no one has ever had access to them...my guess is that cutting was not a perfect science...plus I have always questioned this whole grading system...it's not a science...it's based on opinion...

I noticed the same thing, when questioned about that Dan said it was because 2 different scanners took the pics
    IIRC.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • Steve...thanks, that would definitely explain it!

The other question I would ask, don't many cards of the same ilk (?)
have the same printing defects until the printing plate wears down or
something gets on it or ........

I am NOT questioning the investigation....far from it, I just want to
get many many facts as I am sure everyone else is....

Maybe we could get someone to do an EXPOSE' on this!

Yeah, many cards from the same batch have the same print or water spots.
But if you look closely at the reverse of the cards, the cardboard grain pattern is the same.
This would be unique to a single card.
  • Tony,
I like that you are trying to look at both sides of it and give him the benefit of the doubt. However; what you are seeing and reading is just the tip of the iceberg in Dan's findings. There is no doubt.
  • Oh no.....no...no.....Definitely NOT doubting anything.....

No one does that much research and comparisons and
come up with all those facts and have me say there
    some doubt!

I just am looking to UNDERSTAND all that there is
about card information as I am sure everyone else
    is.

  • How many of these doctored cards are out there? Any ideas? 100-200? Three years worth or more! Times how many others were (and maybe still) doing this...

Any one know if this guy has finally been arrested?

I don't know if doctored cards are all that he sold or a large percentage of them. I went through my feedback. I purchased 17 cards from him over the last 5 years. The gentleman has over 10,000 feedback. Even if he bought and sold from this account he has sold a lot of cards.
