Question about ebay auction timing for sellers and buyers

Sellers, do you time your auctions to end at a specific time? I have heard that Sun. afternoon is best.

Buyers, is there a time you are most likely to be online and buying?

Thanks for looking.

For whatever reason, a lot of sellers seem to end auctions on Thursday night and Sunday night between 6:00 p.m and 7:00 p.m., Pacific Standard Time.

  • As a seller, its really hard to tell what time is good. On ebay you usually sell world wide, so its all different time zones.

As a buyer, if its an item I MUST have, then the time dosen't really matter to me, i'll be on 1:00 am or 4:00 am, dosen't matter, because most the times you don't win an item when you put an early bid, so its almost pointless to put an early bid. If you wanna win, you gotta snip, and i'm not talking about that service where you give them your password and such, but the good old fashion way, with your own fingers image

I originally thought that Sunday evening was the best time, but since then have ended many auctions on Monday-Thursday evening with virtually no impact on sell price. In my opinion, end times during the day and anytime on Friday or Saturday don't perform as well.

Studies that I have seen with regard to collectibles suggest that US sales are best closed between 7:00-10:00 PM Eastern on Sunday and Thursday nights.

Do you have a link to these studies? Would love to read them...

Don't sell nearly as much on ebay as I used to, but I seemed to realize the best results ending about 9:00 PM EST on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesdays. Sunday too. The worst time was absolutely late morning/early afternoon during the week.

  • Also, as snipes become more commonplace, auction end times become less relevant

I don't think it really matters anymore with so many sniping.

Before that I always used Sunday evenings.

    Good for you.
  • cards, coins and collectibles i end on sunday or monday nights 11pm EST. Surplus stuff like medical supplies i start willy nilly. they sell regardless, usually mid day during the week.

I agree with this. With sniping, end times don't seem to matter as much. I have heard people say Sunday's are the best but as someone who has sold hundreds of thousands of items on every day, it doesn't seem to matter much. I probably sell around 1000 items a week and the day I list them just really doesn't seem to matter.
