Sending a $300 graded card to Canada - a board transaction, not EBAY

A board member wants to buy my 66 PSA 8 Clemente. He is going to PAYPAL the money. This is a board transaction not EBAY. How do I send this and will his address be confirmed. Please help me out with sound advice. The member is a new member of the boards and I don't know him at all.

Thanks,
Mickey71

I wouldn't worry if his address is confirmed. As long as he sends you the money, I don't see much risk for you in the transaction, just send it to the address he provided you.

But what if the address is not confirmed?

Global express guaranteed is $28.76 for a large bubble mailer at 4 oz if you print the postage yourself. Online confirmation covers you with paypal and if you add the extra insurance )it comes with $100 insurance) then you're covered if it's "lost" somewhere along the way. Date certain delivery in 3 days or less.

Remember to list the full value when you ship it. Pay for the extra insurance.

Edit to add - remember that at over $250 you need signature confirmation.

What is the risk if his address is not confirmed? I don't believe there is any buyer protection policy if it is an outside eBay transaction.

  • You must send the card with tracking or insurance to be covered. I would contact paypal to see there policy on non confirmed foreign payers.

The addy does not have to be confirmed.

The seller's only PayPal obligation is to PROVE delivery.
(There are no SNAD awards in off-EBAY transactions.)

Express Mail International is the PayPal-bulletproof shipping
method to Canada. The insured cost will be about $35.

The only problem that I see (since it is not an ebay sale) is if he pays with a CC.

    Storm would know more.

    Proof of delivery is required.

EMI - and GEG - noted above are both fine with PayPal.

Do not waive the signature requirement; it is required by PP.

    Storm,
question for you. If the PP payment is categorized as something non-material, does the seller still have to prove delivery (obviously, if it is a "living expense" or "service", etc category, there is no shipping of goods)?

    ///////////////////////////

ANY credit card payment is a "potential" chargeback; whether on/off EBAY.

PP can only award on an INR-claim, off-EBAY.

The CC-issuer can award on INR and SNAD.

You can ship to Seattle with delivery conf for 75 cents but it will cost you 28 dollars to ship it a few miles up the road to Canada. I just don't sell anything to
Canada anymore unless the buyer will pay for shipping or pays me with an international money order.

Spend the $30 for insured tracking. It is the only way to go to Canada.

"...If the PP payment is categorized as something non-material, does the seller still have to prove delivery (obviously, if it is a "living expense" or "service", etc category, there is no shipping of goods)?..."

    //////////////////////////////

Just tab your PP-generated request for payment as "service" or "non-merch."

PP is then out of the mix, unless unauthorized use is claimed.

    ......

A CC-issuer can still award a CB for "nonperformance;" or, "unsatisfactory service,"
if the cardholder resides within 50 or 100 miles of the service vendor. (Some high-end
cards have additional coverage that may waive the mileage limit.)

Okay, let me get this straight. It will cost nearly $30. The deal had basically been done and the oh by the way email ===I live in Canada--Do you ship there? I don't think I'm doing this as I was going to ship for free until he said Canada. Now I have to ask a dumb puzzling question==Why is this so costly and confusing? I don't think it would cost me $30 to drive to Canada.

Cuz you requested "sound advice," I guess.

The problem is PayPal. They require SigCon to prove delivery on the subject item.

EMI and GEG furnish PP-acceptable proof of delivery.

    ...................

If the buyer trusts you, ask him to send you an International Money Order.

You can then use Priority Mail and buy insurance; less expensive.

It is so costly because that is what the Post Office charges if you want that specific service.

I suggested GEG because as far as I know the actual delivery is done by fedex, and I have more faith in fedex drivers than I do in some of the mail carriers in Canada. I'm sure there are plenty of good ones, but I've heard about a lot of the bad ones.

Since the buyer pulled the 'old by the way I live in Canada" I too would demand payment with an international mo.

I'd say, 'by the way I accept International MO's on this type of sale'

He just PMed me that he has a U.S. address also. I said if it's confirmed---go ahead. I don't do many deals on the boards but some have been a little too memorable for me. Quite honestly, there's a member who posts on here that is a major scam waiting to happen. he actually posts more regularly lately.

There is no confirmed addy requirement.

"Proof of Delivery" is the only extra challenge that Canadian transactions entail.

    /////////////////////////////////////////////

    Basic Requirements:

•Ship the item to the shipping address on the “Transaction Details” page.

•The item must be a physical, tangible good that can be shipped.

•Your primary residence, as listed in your PayPal Account, must be in the United States.

11.6 What is “Proof of Delivery”?

Online documentation from a shipping company that includes all of the following:

•The date the item is delivered.

•The recipient’s address, showing at least the city/state or zip code (or international equivalent).

•Signature Confirmation for payments of $ 250 USD or more.

Just tell him to send his cards first. Trust me the deal comes to end REAL quick.

And you have information to validate these claims? If so, you are leaving the window open for someone here to get scammed.
