USPS Question??? UPDATED!

I mailed out a package to Hawaii from the Chicago area on August 18th... the package has not been delivered and still says it's processed through a California sort facility, what are the chance the package will every arrive to its destination??? Will the post office be able to find the package if it is missing or am I screwed and have to refund the buyer.

Here are the results from the d/c number

If you get a chance PM me the DC number and I'll see what I can find out at work - also how did you mail it? Priority, 1st class, parcel post, express -

You did not state the service level you used.

I have paid for First Class service and gotten Parcel Post many times.

I always stamp the stuff First Class all over the package.

The boat takes about 7-8-days, but if the boat is missed, the item
may have to wait a bit for another boat.

Items shipped incorrectly to/from Hawaii can take MANY weeks
    to arrive.

    ......................

Shipping cards from/to Hawaii should either be done First Class
    or Priority Mail.

First Class works well out of Hawaii, and fairly well into Hawaii.

Boat mail can be ridiculously slow.

    Priority is always best.

  • Package went out Parcel Post (what ever that means???) website said 2-9 days service - I figured that would work - guess I should have known better and just spent a few more bucks!

    It's on a boat...OR, waiting for a boat.

Four to six-weeks is not shocking.

PP is the worst product offered by USPS, and
it is particularly awful to Hawaii.

  • that's crazy that few bucks less gets you such crappy service... I've already refund the buyers shipping and apologized for the delay!

The slight "savings" on Parcel Post is NOT worth the potential problems
    with psychotically impatient buyers.

I have been doing EBAY for more than 10-years, and have NEVER sent
    anything Parcel Post.

lesson learned on my part I've never used PP before this and never again... I figured how long could it take with 2-9 days - thought it would take all 9 but that would be the max.

glad to hear it arrived safely, always find another option when the terms ground and parcel post are offered to you at the post office.

Well, I think 2-9 days refers to the U.S. land area (as opposed to travelling by ocean). I believe parcel post means "by methods other than air".

  • I had a shipping issue this summer that took over two months!! Just one graded card.

It was accepted on 4/29/09 in Minnesota and arrived at the sort facility 5/2/09 and was delivered in PA on 7/2/09. I'm guessing it got stuck in a bag.

I had refunded the buyer back in May. He said if he received the card, he'd repay for it. I just happened to do a one last check of the DC in late July and noticed it was received. I re-requested my money and the buyer repaid. I'm guessing he wasn't going to offer to pay for it.
