Poll - What resolution do you run on your computer - need input for my program

I need to take a survey to find out what resolution most people run their computer at to I can try and tailor my program to fit on a screen.

I run 1680x1050

Thank you for taking this survey.

To keep it a bit coin related, post a coin you like.

    1680x1050

then I increase the size of all webpages by 150% or 200% because everything is too small for me to see.

Sort of defeats the purpose, but I feel coolimage

I prefer a programming approach where you allow the user to resize the window to any size they desire and you include logic to re-layout your user interface according to the chosen size.

Doing this requires that you take this approach from the start.

Although I run a pair of 1900x1280 monitors on my main machine, I have other machines with smaller screens. Also, I often choose to operate more than one program, so I often do not resize a program to the full size of my screen.

I vote for all of the above as far as resolutions that I run.
  • That is getting WAY out there in my ability to code. Access is also pretty limited in that aspect.

Sorry to hear you are having to use Access. I've been there. I guess I was hoping you were using a more advanced technology like WPF or Cocoa, etc. I am barely touching this new stuff myself and i'm in the industry.

My suggestion then, is to make your UI as compact as you can. Target the smallest screen you can.

You ought to be able to get your entire UI into 1280x1024. This will leave enough room at the side of the window on most higher end laptop screens.
  • Easily fits into 1280x1024. It almost fits into 1024x768. So I decided to make this survey to see the ratios of resolutions to see if I need to "squeeze" it a bit for 1024x768. If it wasn't for the access runtime library menus at the top, it would fit into 1024x768. I'm approaching this as not everyone has access and will be using the runtime.

1600 x 1200 - if you make it fir on 1024 x 768 you should be good for 99% of the population.

I'd say that very, very few machines in operation today are limited to 1024x768.

By 1994, most computers had a resolution above this available.

Today, you cannot easily purchase a new LCD screen of such a low resolution.

Don't bother shrinking it more; that's my opinion.

My monitor is full HD but you didn't have that choice.

  • Yes, almost all machines can run high resolutions but the people that use them might not use them. Lots of people have LCD monitors that are capable of 1280x1024 but they run 1024x768 because everything is bigger. My parents fit that category and I was wondering how many other collectors might do this same thing.

Remember most collectors are older and our eyes aren't as good as they used to be so they might run what some might call archaic resolutions. Luckily I have good eyesight still and I run 1680x1024, so I know my text sizes still look fine in the higher resolutions along with giving the lower resolutions all the information without the need for scroll bars.

HD res is above 1024x768 so just vote for anything higher then that. My main concern is to see the ratio between 1024x768 and below to 1280x1024 and above. I want to know if I need to make 1024x768 my target, which was my original goal, but before I move stuff around, I want to have this survey.

Easily 1280x1024 or higher. Just vote for 1280x1024.

Netbook PCs have a display resolution of 1024x600 and are becoming quite popular due to their small size, light weight, and low cost. I wouldn't neglect this, especially if you want your software to be used on a portable platform.
  • 1920 x 1200, but I never maximize the browser window to full screen.

iPhone is 480 x 320, and I do view the CU forum with it quite a bit. Have to zoom in a little to read the text.

  • Dual 19" at 1200 x 1024
  • Come on guys, vote please =) Even if you don't plan to use my program your data helps me out.

If you resolution isn't listed, pick one that is close. I'm looking for a ratio between 1024x768 and lower vs 1280x1024 and higher.

    Thanks!
