When carrying coins INTO a coin show...

How do you do it so that there's zero confusion that they're YOUR coins and not something you just palmed from a dealer?

I'm going to bring some coins to be graded, Ill probably use airtites so that they can rattle in my pocket harmlessly..... is it just a matter of going right to the table?

Do I need to get a note from my mommy?
Has there ever been a case of coin carry-in confusion on the part of the bourse-beasts?
Am I thinking about this too much?

Put them in a PCGS green slab box and watch the dealers scramble for your attention.image

If you are real concerned about it, show the coins you are bringing in to security at the door before entering the bourse.

I always put little stickers on the slabs that say "Please return to <my name>" before taking them in with me.

But, seriously, I've been going to coin shows for 10 years and never had a problem.

I have never had a problem, either. Of course, if you are going to pull out your coins to view or show someone else while at a dealer's table, it is polite to ask the dealer if it is okay.

I did have a problem at Heritage lot viewing once. I ran into a friend that I needed to give a coin to. When I reached into my bag and pulled it out, security asked me not to do so again. Undoubtedly, they want to make sure that lot viewers are not going to swap coins on them.
  • Carry a brown bag in your hand stuffed with bologna sandwiches. Security will be distracted by the food and not pay attention to any coins that you are carrying.

I often buy coins at multiple dealers during a show; I certainly don't worry about carrying coins from one to the next.

  • I expected this to be a thread on how to get safely from your car into the show. I have never experienced and issue with mixing up coins. If I am doing a horse trade I make sure I keep our coins in two seperate piles until we shake hands.

As you can tell, Ive been to like 2 coin shows in my life. At the first show, I purchased 2 coins on my way out the door, so Im not used to the 'mingle' and shouldnt be afraid to, apparently image

    thanks!

If you are carrying flips or 2X2's, the chances that your hand writing style and info format are identical to that of any dealer will be extremely slim.

I was at a show last summer, and I had a pair of cargo shorts
on, with pockets all over the place.

I had just bought a coin from one of the dealers, and as I was
walking by another booth, the guy said something about all of
the pockets on my shorts. I said, yeah, it's good to keep coins in,
and pulled the PCGS slab I had just bought out of my side pocket.

You should have seen the look that guy gave me. It was a look
like I had just confirmed all his suspicions about pockets on shorts
    and coin thiefs.

It was actually kind of funny. I didn't bother to stop and explain
anything to him. What's the point.

Don't give the matter another thought.

But DO be smart at the tables. Ask to remove and show your coins, beforehand. Say "please" and "(no) thank you". Be tidy, courteous, and respectful. Make sure you have the dealers attention before you pull out coins and present them. Mostly it's common sense, really.

If I bring a bunch of stuff to sell I first sell the stuff then I move on to buying stuff. It's mostly so I don't need to carry the stuff I'm selling when I'm buying and also so I already know how much I have to spend.

Never had a problem with dealers thinking something I brought was theirs. Out of respect I don't move dealers coins out of sight and if I pick one to buy I set it in sight while I look at others. The reason is so the dealers can focus on the other customers without distraction. Never had a problem at a show.

And you're now just bringing them back to have them graded? image You'll do just fine. Having receipts to your coins might come in handy.
