The obverse makes me think it isn't authentic (I agree with Savoyspecial). Since I am not a merc expert, when it looks like that, I wouldn't buy it unless it was PCGS/NGC/ANACS slabbed....even that, I don't know since I don't like the obv look.
It should be authenticated by a TPG in my opinion. >>
I wouldn't waste my money, there is no question this coin is counterfeit. The shape of the 4 is not correct and the 2/1 is all wrong, the 1 is on top of the 2.

Well, then. Seeing how the members of this forum ripped this one apart...
If the coin fails the "ripped-apart test" on the forum, then there doesn't seem to be a need to submit for disauthentication.
And yet, there have been plenty of threads that started out with a "this is fake" and ended up with a "no it isn't" by the experts. Sounds like this thread is not going in that direction.

Next to the '16-D this is the toughest! I like the '42/1 better than the '42-D over 1 because it is more obvious.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Especially the big dark blob on the obverse.
I don't know enough about these to know the wear pattern.

Another diagnostic is a small die break/gouge on the reverse to the left of the fasces (forgot where I saved my pic, sorry)
Hope that helps.
