What is with PCGS and toned coins.

It is me or does PCGS just mot like toned coins? Sent some ANACS coins in for crossgrading, I told them to cross no matter what. Well they would not grade the toned coins. So what do you do???
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

    MadMarty,

PCGS doesn't have anything against toned coins that I know about. In fact, just got back three end-roll toned Kennedy's I submitted raw. You might check with PCGS and make sure that they knew that you wanted "cross at any grade." Sometimes they get that mixed up and think it is submitted as a "cross only at grade."

If toning is not typical for a series, PCGS may call it AT and refuse to slab it. End toning on a Kennedy fits into the typical category, so should have no problem being slabbed.

I think Keith said the Magic Word when it comes to Toned Coins to PCGS. Send them in RAW.
Of 8 Cross Overs I submitted 5 Coins were Toned and 1 Crossed. The other 3 were White and 2 Crossed. I think they want to see the whole Coin if it is Toned. IMHO.

What do you do? Try them again and again and again if you must have them in a PCGS slab. Perhaps do the cross at any grade at NGC and then try those at PCGS. It can be expensive, but if you must have them in a PCGS slab this is the way to go.

PCGS can be extremely unreasonable when it comes to toned coins. They are just plain scared.
