Old Newspaper articles - value??

I am in the process of possibly buying a collection, and the owner has thousands of sports related newspaper articles dating from the 20s to the 60s. They are not cutout from the paper, but still in complete form. Does anyone have any idea if they have any value. I just glanced through them, and they have tons of neat stories and history. Thanks

<< <i>I have no specific knowledge of this area, but would speculate that newspapers containing stories of significant events such as Babe Ruth's retirement, Dimaggio's hit streak, Gehrig's ironman streak ending, etc. would hold value. Any noteworthy articles in the lot? >>
Thanks for the response Don. I'm sure there are significant articles as there were literally thousands of these papers. Just flipping through, I saw numerous articles on World Series, Ruth, Gehrig, etc.

Maybe you can find some folks who want such sheets, but
trying to move "thousands" of them would be a long JOB.
Most serious collectors want FULL papers; not just a sheet
section.
99.99999% of "old" papers are just good as fire starters.
I used to sell "birthday papers."
eg: If a kid was born on August 1, 1980, his parent might buy him a paper
dated August 1, 1920; etc.
Retail price for non-event paper: $1 to $3.
(I bought such papers for 10-cents or less in bulk.)
Event papers might suck in some newbies on EBAY at higher prices,
but not many.
Some event-papers have some larger values, but they have to be RARE
and they have to be nice examples.
FOXING is the major sale-killer. Retail buyers usually don't like much
foxing, and most collector/dealers won't touch 'em UNLESS they are
good-event papers AND scarce.
I would find out how much newspapers are worth to the recycler and
base my "offer" for that part of the collection largely on scrap vals.
Some sports collectors might also want some event-articles, but it
will be a tough sell to profitably move quantities.
As a LAZY person, I am tired just thinking about the project.

This blog looks interesting, but it seems to be pumping "future retail values."

This is a nice RETAIL site. It has catalogs with prices.
DO NOT use those prices as a guide to buy papers
for resale.
