1826 Bust Half, does it grade, or does it bag?

This is one of those coins that is right on the edge I believe. The reverse is spectacular, with fantastic toning and nice luster. The obverse has been brushed or something and just shows an ever so light cleaning.

I can tell you that Anacs graded this coin on a photo certificate in the early 80's as problem free, but I think they netted it down about 5 points for the obverse.

So what say you, would it bag today?

I know that if I submitted it, it would be Genuine - but that's just my luck. I think it might have a chance, on a good day.

I like that coin and you're right about that reverse. Good luck!

Given what's common in slabs--for all companies--today, that coin better grade.

  • I can't really tell from the pics, but if the original skin is still intact, then you should be OK. Have seen many a CBH with a few wispy hairlines on top of the skin in holders...

I think there's a better than even chance it would grade, but that's just one guy's opinion.

I think it has a better than 50-50 chance of grading.
