1948 Franklin ACG MS-65 FBL what is the line on the reverse

Can some one please tell me what is causing or caused this line on the reverse of this coin? Does it need to come out of this inferior holder?

Thank you in advance

Jim O'C.

More than likely from how the coin was stored over the years. Its not being caused by the holder.
  • I've seen lines like that on stacks of halves held together with a rubber band.

  • I don't understand; it is on the coin not the holder. How did it get there?

Also looks like a fingerprint over the date....

This was wrapped in a rubber band. The band remnents are still on the edge.
When rubber gets old from storage it breaks down and often leaves a mark
like it was burned in. Here's a peace dollar.

It was there prior to being slabbed obviously. As the others have said, it was likely held together by a rubber band with other halves.

the line is toning (possibly rubber band or contact with something)

it also looks like it could be AU-58

most would consider it as raw, and pay no attention
to the grade on the holder

you can leave it in the holder, or take it out, your choice.

acetone is good advice and toss that holder yikes.
  • some unlicensed dealer put his fingerprint on one side and laid a ruber band on the other
then a unlicensed tpg put it in a slab!
