A "what is it" question about 2 coins

I apologize if this is the incorrect place to post this question.

My grandmother-in-law wanted some information on these, and I have no clue what they are or even how to describe them for ebay if she wants to sell them.

Can anyone please offer assistance?

The larger one is a Morgan silver dollar worth maybe $20. The smaller one is a $5 gold half eagle Liberty Head. It has some nasty damage on the obverse so it may not be worth a lot to collectors. Perhaps a few hundred dollars.

PS: don't clean or polish them, just leave them as is

Thank you guys - are there any good "collector sites" to sell these on, other than ebay?

ebay is probably your best bet.

You can post them on the BST forum here (go to "Buy, Sell & Trade - Coins). It's free and you can save ebay fees. But collectors here are savvy and won't pay much more than "melt value" for the gold.

The silver dollar isn't worth a lot so it probably doesn't matter where you sell it. Have you considered saving it as a "keepsake"? Maybe someone you want to remember fondly is tied to it. It actually looks in pretty nice condition. Unfortunately it is a common coin.
