  • << <i>Thanks everyone! I'll give details as soon as I can but it sounds like the burglers had the stuff stold from them the night after it happened and the second set of crooks just sat on it but slipped up trying to sell it last week and I got wind of it and tracked them down and alerted the cops. >>

And I was thinking the cops were actually able to track down the stuff. I guess some dealer deserves kudos.

<< <i>Shaweeeeet! I'm really happy for you. Don't you love it when a plan comes together? image >>

Yep! Complete and total satisfaction! I mean it will be nice to see these guy's put away for a long time but this is a better outcome than ever was expected. This tooks tons of work by me and my family but came down to following every idea and any info we got. I am totally exhausted now- like I could sleep for a week. I bet the police are relieved that we won't be hounding them every day now. If anyone here ever has to go through this I could really help out. I learned a lot how the police department works and how it does not work. Not trying to say anything bad about the police but they do not really have the time it takes to put the effort in to something like this and are working on multiple cases at one time. Plus burglury does not seem to be a priority crime. I am super glad the one detective went to the house when we located the guy that had the stuff. I think he was very god at his job to get the guy to spill his guts- I think a lot of detectives would not have been able to do this.image

That's great news, Mike! Congratulations! (ironic but not surprising about the original thieves getting ripped off themselves)

The dealers deserve tons of credit for stepping up on this- many would be afraid to get involved. To them I am very very grateful!

<< <i>I love a happy ending. Make sure to keep us posted on the criminal prosecution. That will make it even happier.

"The coin fairy reunited the collector with his coins, and they lived happily ever after. The crooks did some serious time with cellmates named Bubba and Big Zeke. The end" >>

I am happy that the OP is getting his stuff back. What a wonderful turn of events.

But I doubt these crooks will ever see Bubba for this crime.

I would expect that our idiotic justice system will end up giving these low life scumbags a slap on the wrist and some kind of probation.

I am also very happy to hear this. Congrats!

Having gone though this, you said you have a lot of advice for someone in the same situation. Do you likewise have any advice for us on what we can do now to prepare that will help us in the event we face a theft of our coins? Are there some things you did right or found you wished you had done before your coins were stolen? Thanks in advance.

Crooks, stealing from crooks...how fitting and it allowed you to get a lead and have the bad guys apprehended.

Yeah, I am quite aware of how the police work, I had a detective say they could not investigate every suspected crack house that is called in and what's bad, those bad guys know all this too and use it to thier advantage.

    Good job.

  • Wonderful news, and very unexpected I am sure. But it looks like you put a lot of your own work into tracking your property down. Good for you!!!

Thieves stealing from thieves, and then getting caught fencing the twice stolen goods - nice! Karma in action!

    Priceless !!!!

Great to hear. Good work tracking them down and nice to see the bad guys get nailed for once. After your original post about the theft I revised my own security precautions. Congratulations!!

Congrats on getting your coins back! A very rare situation indeed. Don't expect too much regarding "putting the crooks away for a long time." Sadly, it never seems to happen......

Gar, I'll post a story on it as soon as they nab the other crooks and find out their stories too. Their are a few bits and pieces of the story are scattered throughout this thread. image

I hope you got everything back intact- A few years ago I got hit for three PCGS boxes of Ikes, SBA's and Sac's - almost all the coins where recovered, but they had been cracked out of their slabs.

As a new member here, my notice of your list of stolen coins shook me.

Made me look at how I do things - I thank you for that.

Sincere congratulations on getting your pieces back.

After your rest, maybe you could put your experience in an article.

Would be interesting and would help us all to 'be prepared'.

    Congratulations again.

JBN, I am planning on doing just that as soon as things calm down on my end and I am thinking a bit clearer. image
