Estate Sale:Recommendations for the Heirs

Have several customers who would like written instructions with suggestions on what to do with their collections in the event the coins need to be liquidated by their Wife.

If suddenly not only they are gone but the dealer ( s ) they have entrusted to help build these collections are also gone. The coins are suddenly in the hand of their Wife, who knows nothing about coins, how to liquidate the coins and with whom to do so. What would you put in writing, based on experience?

Also, if there a collecting software available in the market that a collector can use to help keep things in order so that again, if they are suddenly no longer available, the Wife and/or other heirs can more easily dispose of the collection and not be taken?

This is a serious part of what we do isn't it? I know that when I hopped up on the gurney to have open heart surgery in 2005, and after they stuck the needle in me, I KNEW that if I didn't come out of cardiac intensive care, that my Wife would know who to call and how to dispose of the inventory and our collections. What do you all do? What do you all recommend?

My wife is dead so it's not a widow's coin collection disposition problem.
    It's my kids' worry.
My daughter gets bombarded all the time with the values of the coins I have.
She has a good handle on what they're worth so there's little chance a dealer will rip her off.
I've told her what dealers to consider consigning them to, if she decides to sell them.
She's always amazed at the amount of money I will spend on a worn out POS Seated Quarter.
She just doesn't understand us coin collectors.

I've told my family which auction companies to call and what commission rates they can expect. They also know whom they can call for advice.

My wife knows which dealers to call first and what auction company (based in Dallas) to call if need be. There are written instructions with phone numbers in the SDB, which gets updated as needed. I plan to dispose of the coins prior to my departure, but often we do not know when our number is up.
