The Saga of the 1925S Mercury Dime Crossover.

About a Year or so ago I bought this 25S Mercury Dime from a dealer. We meet at a Denny's to make the Deal. Upon getting home where the lighting was much better I looked at the Dime and figured it should be in a FB holder instead of the ANACS 63 holder. Sent the Dime back to ANACS for a Review and they sent it back still in the 63 holder.
Well determined to see if this thing would get the FB designation I sent it to NGC. Darn the thing came back in a NGC 63 holder. Figured what the heck it must be a 63.
About 4 months ago I joined the Collectors Club and received the 8 Free Submissions. (Not Really Free) Sent 4 coins in the first time and the results for the Cross Overs were less than Pleasing to Me. That left 4 more to go. About 3 weeks ago decided to see if another Cross Over attempt would work. Started picking Dimes out and only had 2 White ones that I figured for sure Crosses.( 1 Out of 2 made it ) Last 2 Dimes I figured a couple of Moderately Toned ones would be a Nice Test. Picked My 27D a NGC 64 coin and the 25S that has did more Traveling than its Owner. Well Guess what. The 27D did not Cross but the 25S CROSSED TO MS64FB and let Me tell you "I am one Happy Camper with that.
Needless to say the 25S will Stay at Home Now !!!

            Ken,

That's a great story, and a tribute to your ability to grade Merc's yourself. Your persistence paid off bigtime. Congratulations!

Congratulations, Ken. Vindication is an awesome feeling. Sometimes those "other" guys just don't know up from down -- literally!

          • BIG CONGRATS, Ken.

I find it funny that the most conservative grading company can find "the splt", while the two inferior companies could not! image
NICE GOIN" on the upgrade and the split bands. image
Did you crack it out, or send it in the NGC slab?

            Again, Way To Go!

            Regards,

          • Congratulation's on the 25 S.I just got my crossover results and my 1934 D NGC MS66FB ( looked 67 ) crossed to PCGS as MS66FB image I am very Happy but I thought it should have got a 67.After my NGC merc's are all put into PCGS holders I should start moving up a little in the registry.

...and end up paying more in submission fees than the upgrade was actually worth. image
