MS 66 RB (PCGS) (CAC) Starting Bid $3750

Pleasing wood-grain toning with wisps of deep red, golden and yellow orange toning. Well struck. A beautiful specimen of the "poster example" of a Lincoln cent rarity—the first year of issue, and a famous coin for a long time. The addition of the CAC sticker gives another opinion as to the quality, and it's one of the finest CAC verified. If owning this key issue has been on your mind, here indeed is a great opportunity!

PCGS Population: 28; none finer (within the designation).

CAC Population: 4; none finer.

The obverse looks weakly struck to me. However, I do find the wood-grain toning very nice but then the spot appears and my eyes cannot focus elsewhere.

    Not to be a pooh-pooh-----
That reverse spot would always bother me.....Besides, it looks like the kind of spot that can grow.

What do you expect from a Mint State coin? Proof Surfaces?

    It looks beautiful to me.

    I'd rather have a 1955 DDO.

    ..especially in 66 RB!

    Very nice!

Looks like slab smudges that obscure the first T in STATES and the first A in AMERICA.

The photo looks a little "sharpened" or too "defined". Edges seem unusually crisp for just an average strike (softness in beard, hair, top of the ear).

Copper guys get used to an occasional dark spot. Doesn't bother me at all.
    Lance.

I suspect Goldbully was not looking for us to oooh and ahhh over it. He's correct. I grade it 64BN

Rick, I agree with BN, but why just a 64?
A PCGS slab that has a CAC sticker should display the correct grade....one would think.
But, to be off by 2 grades is inexcusable. image

the CAC sticker makes me think that perhaps the photo isn't very accurate and that it needs to be viewed in hand... otherwise based on the photos i'd say overgraded a little.

the spot would have to be seen in hand too, remember in hand it may be hardly noticed, but in a blown up picture it stands out a little.

Well sure the spot can grab your eyes when you look at an image as large as this one! I am sure in hand that spot is hardly noticeable.
  • Obverse weakly struck. Next.

The spot does not bother me but I keep thinking "where's the beard" - I prefer strike over a lot of stuff.
"spot on my UHR, nevermind, I wiped it off"

I'd guess it's a poor image. I can't see PCGS and CAC both being wrong. I'd want to see it in hand before bidding on it.
