Odd little newp

I mentioned in a thread today that I stopped by the B&M but he was closed. So I went "across the street" to the dealer in town I loathe. One of those stores loaded with very cool things, but NOTHING is ever for sale. Or if it is, it's at a huge premium.

Anyway, I had a metals itch and I knew I had to get something. So I held my nose and walked through the door...

As always, he had every gold coin you could imagine. Fractionals to 50 pesos, a very cool holed 1/2 sovereign. Stacks of circulated peace and morgan dollars. Several generic 10 oz silver bars. I was going to buy a 2.5 peso, but this caught my eye instead:

The hairlines are much less obvious in person and virtually disappear in direct light.

The image on the reverse (or is that the obverse?) is actually not bad, and I usually hate that kind of thing.

Got it for spot...er, melt. I was hoping they wouldn't think about the loop (bale?) and I was right--to them it was simply 2 grams of .9999 gold. $60 out the door.

The bale is marked "MILOR 9999". Google Milor and it appears to be a legit Italian gold and silver jewelry company.

Tacky or cool?

  • I just sold 6-7 of those on eBay. One I picked up a local B&M for $38. It weighed in a 1.15 grams and was marked on the package as such. That one brought $70 some dollars. I never really cared for them but collected 1g gold pieces so bought them anyhow. I vote tacky but for Melt you can't complain image
    Its all relative

    "Tacky or cool?"

Maybe a bit flashy but in a quiet, un-tacky sort of way. Certainly cool by any measure and for bugs...it's all good.
  • I like it. Gold and art in one piece, very cool.
