My 2nd GSA Morgan Dollar

I just purchased my 2nd GSA Morgan and I absolutely love this one due to the toning on it. Although it is kind of light toning but nice nonetheless. Is this type of toning common as it seems to look like it was resting against the canvas bag. Opinions are welcomed and grade if possible. Ill post pics once I receive the coin. There is only one problem with it and it is that the package has a little crack

I certainly like the textile dots...I guess finding Morgans with textile pattern is a bit hard to find since only a few would had to remain in contact with the canvas. If only the coin had some rainbow toning on it.
  • Some dealers of toned coins will charge a massive premium for a textile pattern like that, even if the colors themselves aren't particularly pretty.

Is it just me or the coin on the picture looks to be a 1883 Morgan???
  • Looks like an 1883-CC to me.....I love textile but pretty much prefer attractive colors along with the textile pattern. I would be shocked if someone could sell that coin for a premium just becuase of the textile dots when the color really isn't there but............people will pay for what they like so if they like it enough.....it only take 2 too tango
  • I like it a lot, but that crack in the case means that it will BB if you send it to NGC for grading. I wonder if you might just as well crack it out and send it to PCGS if you think it would rate a 65?

I actually intend on keeping it as is. Im interested to know why it would BB simply because of a crack on the plastic. After all the coin is not affected. Do they grade the plastic as well, I mean thats kind of absurd to BB a coin simply because of a crack on the case

i guess the cracked holder isnt too too bad but, to body bag it for that seems silly.
if i read the pics right i`d say the coin is a 63 or 64 which is about average for gsa morgans
what makes it special though is the textile toning. if mine, i might just have it put in a good
    third-party-grading-service holder, preferably pcgs.
  • Keep the coin in the GSA holder. Why crack it out? It loses its identity if cracked out of the GSA holder. And why have NGC grade it? Not worth the cost.

that is sad the holder is cracked but, what about long term storage.
maybe the holder has been compromised, maybe not.
to re-holder or not is the question..

Ive compared pictures with other 82's and it looks like it is indeed a 82. Its too bad about the crack but I can overlook it since it is not visible unless it was on the front.

oh, i thought it was an 1883.
anyway, i still think that crack has the potential
to jeopardize to integrity of the coins surface
    atleast on the reverse.
then again, its a small crack and may not actually pose
any problems, atleast in the near term.
