I hate my #$%@! post office!

So I go to the post office before work this morning to pick up my latest delivery from PSA. Not only can they not find it, they couldn't find another guy's express package or a whole box of mail for another lady in line. WTF is wrong with these people? I thought registered parcels were supposed to be "secure" and thus stored in a designated secure location. Now I'll have to go back at lunch and waste my time helping these people do their friggin' jobs.

    i love my post office, everyone there is on a first name basis and they do a good job. I also like my mail carrier, he ratted out some neighborhood punks who were vandalizing parked cars. There are good and bad people in every kind of job/location. You just got the runts of the litter image

    I love my post office but hate my mailman and my UPS guy. Mailman either delivers my stuff to the wrong house or leaves it laying in the yard while it's raining.

    UPS guy tries to see how far he can throw my BBCE orders and if he can actually land it on the porch.

    I've had that happen before and it's REALLY annoying. Especially for the cost related to registered shipping.

    One time I had a PSA submission, and the next day the postal worker dropped the orange card in my mailbox that you need to sign when they deliver it. That technically wasn't anything wrong, but it was just dumb--they're supposed to keep the card, what do I want it for?

    I think the USPS uses AMTRAK to ship packages across country that are insured by AIG.

    Registered packages are locked in a cage at every stop and only one guy at the PO has the key.
    Maybe they should take away that guy's key privileges.

    Just went back there and got the package. Thanks USPS for costing me 5 bucks in gas to go retrieve it. Appreciate it.

    My two post office girls rock! Always have food and curse like longshoremen.

    Not close.

    They stay overnight in a "registry room" in a large post office or in the safe in a smaller post office, IF it fits in the safe.

    They're always transferred between offices in an orange bag with a numbered ring seal that has to be cut to be opened.

    The ring seal comes with matching numbered paperwork that the receiver "must" sign (unless the one handing it to him or her doesn't insist.)

    The clerk gives it to the carrier who signs for it and gets cleared at the end of the day if it's not delivered. Then back to the reg room or the safe.

    The carrier theoretically keeps the vehicle locked all day to prevent theft.


    Registered mail is the most secure way of shipping anything, but it's not foolproof. At the end of the day, there's humans involved so there can always be problems.

    Nope, but believe it or not we do have FedEx transport some of our express mail, and we deliver parcels for FedEx and UPS.

    If you mean the peach colored slip, it's for you to take to the post office to show them which package you are supposed to get, and that you are entitled to it. It's a notification that there is a package or letter for you to pick up.

    If they didn't leave that slip, how would you know it was waiting for you at the post office?

    I work out of 9 different offices, and I can tell you for sure that USPS has some of the brightest people and some others that make you shake your head.

    I guess it's just like society and any other job where there is no such thing as merit raises or promotions. The guy in charge got something like an $800K bonus while we're losing billions.

    Let me say that I have dealt with others at USPS who have been great. Ron Burgundy, however, has no tolerance for incompetence. He also doesn't support the monopoly the USPS has on delivering the mail. When the CEO gets a huge bonus while the enterprise is losing billions, it's time for it to be privatized.

    Registry room, whatever. My PO workers call it the 'cage'
    And they have told me many times that only one guy has they key.

    One more thing -
    Maybe you can shed some light since I haven't gotten a straight answer at my PO
    My PSA packages from CA - WY via registered take usually 10 days
    Normal mail takes significantly less, usually 5-7
    My local PO insists it shouldn't take any longer than regular mail
    I say it does because of the added security.
    It takes longer to ship registered, right?

    Yes it takes longer, and most believe it's the extra security. I don't do any contract hauling and don't really have any friends that do, so I don't know all the details of the trucking part of it, but I'll ask our drivers and see what answers they have.

    It's hard to ever get a straight answer at USPS. It's just as hard for me as it is for you.

    The "cage" they're talking about is a large room, with walls that look like chain link fence. Probably so the reg clerk can't steal.

    The reg clerk is responsible for everything in there, so they have the only key. I wouldn't want to be that clerk if others had the key.

    I think the registered mail is only kept in reg rooms at it's final destination. I have a friend who is a reg clerk at the biggest office around here, I'll try to call her tomorrow and see if she has answers.

    I had an interesting experience a couple months ago. They couldn't locate my registered parcel one morning, and it wasn't "in the cage." It was found on a supervisor's desk.

    I worked in a mail distribution center for a few years when I was younger.

    We had a USPS mail warden onsite.

    I would fill USPS boxes and up a full square cover over the box when it was full.

    There were dozens of times I would unfold the cover and a piece of mail fell out. Lost mail is what it was. The oldest one I ever found was 4 years old. I have found bills. junk mail, greeting cards, government checks ect. I always turned them over to the warden, I know some people didnt. I guess what I am trying to say is lots of mail does get lost and it sucks!

    Edit to add: We ended up getting new USPS Warden after the original one choked one of our tech support guys.....
