Did nobody notice that the Nationals signed Strasburg?

    I noticed it.

It won't really be a big news story until he shows what he can do in the majors.
  • It was all over ESPN as the deadline was approaching and he hadn't signed yet. Almost no mention of it after he did sign.

I was kind of hoping he'd go back into the draft pool so the Pirates would have two studs to pick from. It will be interesting to see if he becomes the next David Clyde or Brien Taylor or the next Nolan Ryan. Definitely no guarantee with MLB drafts.
  • The ultimate Washington Bailout. Sure is a far cry though from NFL rookie money for a prospect of that caliber.

Yeah but if you read about former #1 overall pitchers that were drafted it's not good. I think Mike Moore and Andy Benes are the only 2 with over 100 wins and overall winning records.

I was surprised the $$$ were as low as they were. I had heard reports that he was seeking a whole lot more than what he ended up taking.
  • No point in sitting out a year for no reason. It's not like the team that'll probably have the #1 pick next year (Washington, KC, Pitt, or Baltimore) will have a ton of money to throw at him. Might as well get in the bigs and start your real career rather than toil around in an indy league somewhere, while there's no guarantee for more money the next season.
