Question on an NGC slab

NotSureNotSure Posts: 2,979 ✭✭✭
I've seen NGC slabbed coins with a 'W', and also with a '*', but very recently saw one with both '* T' on it. I know 'W' is/was for 'white' (I believe they did away with the 'W'), and the '*' is for a 'premium ' coin (in NGC's eyes). Can anyone shed some general light on the 'T' designation, and more specifically, what a '* T' might indicate? Also, what is the likelihood of getting a 'green bean' on a '*' coin? Thanks in advance for your replies/help.
I'll come up with something.

  • "T" means tough luck when you go to sell. Just kidding, I have never seen one. Do you have a link?

Here's a link to the coin. As 78saen said, toned. Judging by the sellers images, I'd have to agree with that. Is this another designation they stopped using? Do they use them at all any longer? As I said earlier, I believe the 'W' is no longer used. Do they still use the '*'? In the case of the 'T', I am going to guess the 'T' isn't used any longer (this particular coin is in a pre 'Official grading service of the ANA' holder, as it sports the old hologram on the reverse, without the 'Official grading service of the ANA' hologram).
    I'll come up with something.

coinmanic, I have to agree with you totally about reselling. If I were ever to sell any of my non-PCGS coins, I'd make sure they had a 'green bean', or have them crossed to PCGS plastic.

The "T" designation stands for "toned". The designation was short lived and it is unusual to see NGC slabs with that designation today. The "W" stands for "white" and that was also short lived.

Another koolaid drinker... A great coin will sell well no matter if it's PCGS or NGC...
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!
