Safe Deposit Box Storage ~ eva-dry E-333 Mini Dehumidifier

If you happen to use a large safe deposit box at a bank, what do you use to prevent air/moisture from getting to your coins? Have you ever used the eva-dry E-333 Mini Dehumidifier sold through Amos Advantage? I use the Intercept Shield slab boxes and decided to try the E-333. I was surprised at how quickly the indicator crystals turned from dry to wet. What method's do you use? Thoughts & comments? Thanks.

Seal your coins in freezer bags, this will slow down the humidity and make your silica last longer.

I have used these silica gel packets in my large safe deposit boxes for years. They are so cheap, I bought a few extra so I have a fully "charged" one in my briefcase when I visit the bank. They seem to last at least 6 months or so - I really have not done any experiments to see how long they will last before the silica gel turns pink.

I also use the IS track-type slab boxes and with the silica gel, have noticed no harmful effects.

If your unit is quickly changing from dry to wet, I can imagine several factors that will influence this. First, how often you open the box will allow for a new air exchange to occur. Although safe deposit boxes are not air tight, they should allow the silica gel to create a micro-environment for months. Of course, if your bank vault has high humidity, the period could be shortened dramatically. My banks in MI and NC don't seem to have humid vaults. Second, if you store papers (or other materials) in your box, they can contain significant amounts of water. It may take some time for the silica gel to pull this water out of the box.
