Anti-abortion group wants Pitino fired

Given the fact that the documents detailing Rick Pitino's statements to police include the word "abortion" in them -- whether or not Pitino offered to actually pay for this abortion is at this point only a matter of semantics -- this was probably bound to happen. A University of Louisville anti-abortion group is publicly calling for Pitino's dismissal. Of course they are.

Really though, the public statement might not even be the most interesting thing here. If you want to know just how much sway Pitino still has in Kentucky, check out this quote:

“Rick Pitino will always be considered a great basketball coach, but just because he knows basketball does not mean the University of Louisville community should hold up this man as a role model and hero,” Lisa Just, president of Cardinals for Life, said in a news release.

That statement is just so very respectful. It has none of the delicious and exhausting fervor that we've come to expect from abortion divide. Heck, it doesn't even have the fervor of the Michael Vick story. Very few people structure their Michael Vick-related statements by prefacing with "Michael Vick will always be considered a great scrambler ... BUT." This is Rick Pitino's Louisville: Even the protesters have to kiss the ring.
