oh man, could you imagine if there were no black ink in a few blotchy places on that card?? It would be worth a billion dollars or something.

I've read offers of $500 maybe wanting $800+ but unsure of actual sell prices.

It is a cool card for sure. But 12K, did Bush have a huge rise in popularity when I wasn't looking???

I always thought the card was in the $1000 range, but i have not heard of any offered for sale in a looooooong time. Likely won't sell for that much, but will sell high.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

I think that $1,500 to $2,000 would be about right. Anything in the five figure range is pure fantasy.

    I like this one..

They must have added 3 extra zeros by mistake, I sure hope so anyway.

EDIT: Ooops, nevermind, I didn't realize it was number 37. A card that doesn't even exist on the pop report.
  • BMW Cards. Are they they ones I've seen in classifieds for 100 years now? Maybe I'm thinking of Bevery Hills Shop. Either way, I've always pictured high prices based on the name.

I'd have a shop titled "Gheto crds" Were so cheap, we didn't splurge for the a.

<<< Possesses a population of only 100, most of which reside in private hands. It has been alleged that a few examples made their way into 1990 Topps packs and then into the hobby. This card may have been one of those examples. >>>

Story has it Bush had the card pulled because he was against bubble gum and tooth decay.

This is an example of what will happen if Ebay gets rid of auction format -

Sellers starting with an unreal BIN and taking offers on everything

This seller's prices are stupid high, but with fixed-price auction you're giving up a potential bidding war, so your BIN will have to be much higher than you expect the end price to be

I thought I remember one selling a few years back for around 3k.

It was raw and if my memory is correct it was bought by Olbermann.

He's got one of the nicest Rose RCs I've ever seen. He's had it listed for at least 2 years and keeps raising the price. It's fun to look at it every now and again. Stunning.

  • rogermnj had access to a couple of these a few years back. maybe he'll chime in with some more info for you guys. i have had an active ebay search going since roger's "find" and i think this is the first one that has popped up.

We listed that card in the Standard Catalog many years ago. The current listing mentions a July, 2005, auction and gives the price at $2,000.

That was the Keith Olbermann purchase that Steve was referring to earlier. The condition was a little worse than this one.

    Bishop,
My card can hardly be worth only $2,000 since it is an 8 and the one from BMW is only a 7. I will hold out for more. See you next week--you can look at in person for $300. image

BMW has ALWAYS priced their stuff out of site. They go around looking for rare and super high grade so they have some unique items but they don't know how to price more commons stuff. Talking to them in person they fell like you should pay for the privledge of buying from them.

They are also big time SGC supporters. First big time dealer I remember going almost strictly SGC and I felt it kicked them out of most mainstream buyers that were registry guys.
Currently completing the following registry sets: Cardinal HOF's, 1961 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, Bill Mazeroski Master & Basic Sets, Roberto Clemente Master & Basic Sets, Willie Stargell Master & Basic Sets and Terry Bradshaw Basic Set

I agree, he has a Mars Attacks card in 9 that he wants 5k for when most usually go for 1500-2k

However with that said he can price his cards however he chooses. I can choose to pass.

    Unreal.
  • To think I sold mine (busted from a pack in '90) back in '95 or '96 for $500. Figured at that price then I would find another image

Seems like a waste of money to me but I don't know much about that card.
  • The value for the Bush in the nineties was $500, and it has since gone up. If anyone wants to sell me one for $50 in a couple years, let me know.
  • Very cool card. I never seen one.

these weren't inserted in packs... maybe you mean't to say you pulled a canseco all-star card in a 1990 topps pack?

I was approached by the lawyer of a person who owned this card about a year ago. It had been autographed by the former President, and they were looking to sell it. Something didn't feel right about the deal, so I didn't pursue it.

Can anyone share where these cards originated from? I know nothing about it and don't ever remember this card being an insert in the 90 Topps set. Quite interesting.

    From the Standard Catalog:

As a favor to President George Bush, Topps produced a special run of 100 cards in its 1990 design featuring a photo of the president in his Yale University baseball uniform. At least a few of the cards reportedly were inadvertently included in regular Topps packages and made their way into the hobby.

I have never met anyone that claims to have pulled one from a pack.
That is very interesting to me that they apparently were issued by a quirk somehow...

I don't think an inadvertant insert into packs would be possible. It would not have been included on the sheets that were cut for the packs. If they made their way into packs, it was on purpose. With that said, the run of Topps that year was unreal, so imagine the odds of pulling one of a handful of the 100 that were inserted, realizing it was an SP and reporting it. Doesn't add up.
