My Favorite Card Is Up On Ebay ... And Being Auctioned By Great Lakes Auction House

My all-time favorite card ... 1933 Goudey Rogers Hornsby # 188 ... is up on eBay. Slight problem though, it is being auctioned by Great Lakes Auction House. I'm tempted to bid on it and, if won, submit it just to see what it would come back as. Thankfully, I already have a graded copy, but it would be a fun "experiment."

Great looking card if you don't care what number psa gives it.
collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.
looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
<< <i>That card looks EXACTLY like the one I had.....it looked flawless...was graded an SGC 2......slight micro surface wrinkle you could only see by tilting it in the light...... >>
Do your records show who you sold it to? That might help us find out who buys the graded cards that great lakes sells
It was one of the nicest Goudey's I ever owned....when I first saw the wrinkle, I wanted to cry because I thought I had put it there.....it was a centered to the left, but it had some of the best corners and surface I had ever seen on a Goudey.....
<< <i>........It shows up under VCP, but the bidder is obscured........ >>
If it was your card, forget VCP and just check through your own feedback.
I bid $10.
My guess is a psa 3 or 4 (but tough to tell from small scans) does have pretty nice eye appeal (edit: but with bobbyw8469's wrinkle, it may be lower??? bobbyw8469: Are you 100% sure this was your card???)
SMR Pricing:
PSA 1 = $ 50
PSA 2 = $ 100
PSA 3 = $ 165
PSA 4 = $ 235
PSA 5 = $ 400
Pop Report (total: 361 graded)
PSA 1 = 23
PSA 2 = 33
PSA 3 = 56
PSA 4 = 68
PSA 5 = 61
edit: bobbyw8469, since you owned it, what PSA grade would you put on this card, as you cannot really see the wrinkle in this scan? Funny Great Lakes Auction House, describes how nice this card is, but fails to mention the "micro wrinkle", that seems to be prevalent, as bobbyw8469 describes it! I think it would be pretty "low class" of Great Lakes Auction House NOT to mention the card's "micro wrinkle", if they indeed knew about it?
Quicksilver Messenger Service - Smokestack Lightning (Live) 1968
Quicksilver Messenger Service - The Hat (Live) 1971
Was it on ebay? Can you check your feedback from then?

This was disclosed on the Koufax thread from weeks ago.
Actually bought this one ungraded
Goofbay bidding results
Looks like this is the Koufax rookie as he bought it
What good lighting and description will get you
<< <i>The image of the card you sold is in VCP. It looks 90/10 or more off center to left and is not the same card pictured in the auction. >>
You are exactly right.
<< <i>Looks like this is the Koufax rookie as he bought it

Those aren't the same cards. Right border is thicker in the Great Lakes auction, for one thing.

Either way, that is one of the Great Lakes buying IDs.
Bought as a PSA 5
Definitely the same card--even has the same water mark on the back. If you look closely at his enlarged scan, you can actually see that the corners aren't so hot, but it will probably still sell for good coin.
BTW, I don't think he's buying cards with wrinkles/creases and not disclosing them...he would get negged eventually for that even if he took returns. I think a lot of the graded cards he's buying were cards that were held back because of centering, pd, or other technical issues. He's making money on cards graded 7-7.5 as well.
I couldn't find the Koufax rookie.
Instead, he uses words like "superb" and "fantastic" and "crisp photography" and "centerpiece to a collection". He uses words like "impress" instead of "crease". If a card has rough corners, it has "average corner aging". All the print marks on his cards are "tiny", as to make the buyer think they are inconsequential
His terminology implies (to the uninformed bidder) that this is a high grade card, yet since he never even suggests an actual grade, he can't be held to it
He's a used car salesman
And there are a lot of suckers out there
<< <i>It's very tricky what he does. From what I've seen he never lists a specific condition, like NM

<< <i>Of course not I was not the one who said it.
Steve >>
now you seem to be getting it. I just really don't like you.
The feeling of course is mutual.
Steve
<< <i>Geez I can just imagine the reactions around here had I made the same post that Hammered made.
Steve >>
We give no quarter to Mets fans.
<< <i>I don't take offense to the "used car salesman" remark because I own a car dealership. We sell used cars as well as new cars. I also have a restaurant and several other business entities. Oh, and a double major in Econ and Finance from UGA. But if people want to refer to me as a used car salesmen then that is fine too. I've done pretty well selling used cars. >>
Gee, and you were doing so well until you got to the UGA part.
<< <i>Finally, you admit to it.
The feeling of course is mutual.

lol, I'm sure everyone thought we were best buddies previously.
out to be just another one of your debacles.
You remember the one where you got all those 8's that turned out to be trimmed?
The set where I tried to tell you that no dealer would leave that type of money on the table?
Or was it the 61 set fiasco where I simply tried to explain to you the importance of centered cards?
Am I missing anything, used car salesman?
Steve
lol good one Keith.
Steve

lol, I made almost $1000 on the '61 set, so how was that a fiasco? The cards in the '65 set were never deemed trimmed. I only exercised the return policy since everyone thought they might be trimmed and I didn't want to take a chance on the guy not letting me return them. The seller ended up selling the set for $600 more than I paid and to my knowledge the buyer never complained.
You think everything on here is about you and in reality you mean nothing.

Well frankly, we already know it's gonna come back likely a 5, so bid maximum 5 money on it...of course the problem is it's probably gonna sell for more than that.
There's no "experiment" necessary - we already know their business model and it ain't gonna change for this one card.
I told them not to talk to me.
I might even take my own advice.

you are absolutely right. From hence forth I will never, NEVER reply to anything you say. So jab away. I'm gonna be the better man and step away.
